No he doesn't do reports he just writes a load of absolute rhetoric each month. Does the magazine no favours IMO. It strikes as being a bit of a 'filler'.
His 'flow of conscious' style often comes off a being poorly thought out and disjointed.
I agree its usually a poor excuse for an article and adds little to the magazine.
Buncie has widened his cope and now writes/commentates on anything they will let him on. Sometimes I wonder about his depth of knowledge on topics such as Wimbledon and the Winter Games..
it's called an opinion column
stream of consciousness is not a literary crime. the so-called 'modern novel' is one in which the voice of the author can be more readily felt. Ever read any William Burroughs, Ian Banks, Brett Easton Ellis, Chuck Paluhniak, Philip K Dick?
If they can go deep into the back of their minds and pull something back, & it can still be called writing, Buncey's entitled to have a natter once a month
boxing monthly used to have a shit book/film review section in the 1990s, criticising the superb, very personal book Dark Trade: Lost in Boxing for Being as much about the author as the boxers., as McRae comes to terms about his own obsession with a sport in which ppl are utterly broken, shaping his own opinions along the way, journey style. Nowadays you don't have to write emphatically in the rigid 3rd person. maybe that's progress of sorts
