Heavyweights: Jimmy Young vs. Ron Stander

15 Rounds Heavyweight Bout

Young would overwhelm Stander behind his jabs and counterpunches on the outside for either a decision win or late round cut eye stoppage win. What do you guys think and who do you got?

Sweet Pea Stander would dance circles around Young, outslick him and score a shotout decision win.

The first fight I ever saw was Stander vs Norton. It was on the undercard of Young-Ali.
Stander was not in Young's league. young was known for not having much power, but really I can't imagine Stander lasting 15 rounds. Stander would be getting hit a lot.

Not sure about Stander's jaw. Stander got stopped early by tomato cans. Agree that Young didn't have a lot power. He did hit hard enough to hurt Foreman.

Stander was a punching bag. At a certain point if he doesn't get cut, he get hurt from an accumulation of blows. Can't imagine him lasting 15 rounds. The OP stated 15 rounds and that is what I was going by.

Agree that in real life, it would not have been scheduled for 15. Probably not 12 (though Norton-Stander was..

I could see Stander surviving 10 rounds and losing a lopsided decision.

I'm not sure that I am really disagreeing with you that much. There was always a reason why Stander got stopped. The other guy was a hard puncher, it was on cuts, he was tired, whatever. The bottom line is he got stopped many times. He simply wasn't very good. Young was. Of course Foreman was tired, but Young still had to hit him. Even though Young was not by any means a heavy puncher, at a certain point after Stander got hit so many times he is going to be stopped. Maybe the ref or his corner stops it because he is hurt, maybe by cut. Whatever the case, he would not last 15 rounds.

At a certain point, you just have to stop making excuses for the guy. Frazer and Norton Ok. Jeff Merritt? No I don't buy that Merritt was some big puncher. Just a year after Norton stopped Stander, so did Boone Kirkman. Even Horace Robinson. You don't have to be a big puncher if you can land at will for 15 rounds, which is what Young would do with Stander. 10 rounds would be pushing it. Stander would never last that long. He would probably get cut. If not his trainer or the ref is going to stop it at some point.

The guy simply wasn't very good. I think we have talked about him long enough. I will let you have the last word.
