Daniel Dubois vs. Trevor Bryan Will Be Pursued, Says Frank W

Frank W, promoter for Daniel Dubois (16-1, 15 KOs), will push for his boxer to get a mandatory crack at WBA "regular" champion Trevor Bryan (21-0, 15 KOs).

On Saturday night, Dubois captured the WBA's interim-heavyweight title, when he demolished Bogdan Dinu (20-3, 16 KOs) with a big knockout in the second round.

After an aggressive first round, Dubois landed a massive right to send Dinu down for the full count in the second.

Warren is now hoping that the WBA will order a mandatory fight between Dubois and Bryan.

"I hope they do. That’s what we agreed would happen before the fight. We’ll push that and see if we can get it over the line," Warren said.

The 23-year-old Dubois returned for the first time since suffering the sole defeat of his career, when he was stopped by Joe Joyce in their high stakes fight last November.

It was a devastating loss, as Dubois was ahead on the cards when a fractured orbital bone forced him to take a knee for the full count in the tenth round.

"I’m coming back on my feet, and I’m ready to take over," Dubois told IFL TV. "There were a bit of demons in my head, but once I got in the flow of things, I just let go, and there you go.

"I deal with it. I thought in my mind, once I hit him good and proper, he’s going to go. I was just thinking, 'how am I going to do it', but once I got in there I sussed him out. Whoever next, whoever they bring up for me, I’m ready for them."

Agree. I’d go Dubois by KO but Bryan may not be rubbish, especially if he tightened up a little bit.

I remember we were supposed to see Bryan vs. Miller, but that never happened.

I would like to see Bryan tested,

To be fair, Joshua and Fury have avoided all 3 of these guys…. So you have to ask…. How dangerous are these guys? Eddie Hearn won’t risk his golden goose against these warriors…

Right. Truly knowledgeable boxing fans know it. They saw how Dub upset the Big Bogdan and now they want to use him against Bryan. That's their only chance to put away Trevor from the current paper champs. Anyway, Charr is already on the course to Joshua, since he overwhelmed the great Joylove.

Matchroom will offer Charr step aside money rather than face him. When DDD upset BBB (Big Bad Bogdan) a lot of knowledgeable boxing insiders suggested Triple B was drugged. The WBA may be holding an enquiry.

Yeah, the corrupt matchroom will probably find some way. They have been paying step aside money to Fres for ages in order to keep their bums safe. Hopefully Mighty Mahmoud picks legacy and smashes them all!

The only people who think Joshua would have a chance against Mahmoud are casuals who have bought into the Joshua hype. Charr in 6. :TU:

DDD lost late via injury to one of the toughest heavyweights to fight in the world. Joyce is slow but he is masssive, he is durable as they come, and can maintain his plodding beatdowns for seemingly 30 rounds if he wants. I’m glad to see looking at the pole people arnt seeing that and assuming DDD is trash.

Ddd is limmited but horrifically beats Trev.

Got to feel for Joyce if usyk gets Joshua....he could have been fighting for this wba title a while back.

There is no depth to the division so I would like this WBA belt being used as an excuse to get some decent domestic fights

Frank W on Dubois-Bryan: We'll Push The WBA To Order The Fight

THE SMILE PAINTED across the face of Daniel Dubois following his resounding destruction of Bogdan Dinu on Saturday night told its own story.

The usually reserved Daniel generally doesn’t give much away with words or expression, but there was no hiding his natural joy and relief over having got his career firmly back on track.

There was pressure on the young man, along with the pent up frustration of taking a loss and not immediately being able to put it right due to injury. He was right back in the firing line over in Telford and I am sure there must have been nerves and a degree of trepidation because he is only human, after all.

The nerves clearly dispersed in the opening moments because there was a confidence about Daniel that quickly returned to his work as he jumped back on the heavyweight horse after a fall.

It was a notable win over a highly-ranked opponent that pretty much puts him right back where he was before his encounter with Joe Joyce late last year.

What I will say is that we didn’t work hard to carve out this opportunity for him to win a title for decoration. This victory sees to it that Daniel is in line for a shot at the WBA world title currently in the possession of Trevor Bryan, who fights under the Don King banner over in the States.

This would represent an ideal test and stepping stone for Daniel in his career progression and we will be pushing the WBA to call on the fight. If this goes ahead, which it should, it would mean we can keep Daniel moving along in meaningful fights with his new trainer Shane McGuigan and ever-present manager Martin Bowers.

The heavyweight logjam at the top end probably won’t clear for some considerable time now if events play out as anticipated. Tyson Fury is going into his trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua, unless he drops a belt, must deal with a mandatory defence of his WBO title.

If Tyson and AJ both come through unscathed then the obvious intention is for them to finally get it on in what would be a two-fight blockbuster.

So, if the best laid plans come to pass, there are not many gaps in the heavyweight market to be exploited. This makes it so important for Daniel to press home his newly-won advantage with the WBA and put himself right in pole position for when the titles come back into play.

The same is true for Big Joe. Unfortunately for the Juggernaut, plans for his assault on the top end of the division were delayed and thwarted by uncertainty over the Tyson-AJ fight. As WBO mandatory, Oleksandr Usyk wouldn’t sign up to an Interim world title fight with Joe until the battle of the Brits was over the line – and even then there remained a legal challenge from his side.

Now, with Tyson fighting Wilder, Usyk can exercise his right to a Joshua fight and Joe will be in mandatory challenger position to the winner.

It is a pity that Joe couldn’t jump straight into the Ukyk fight after patiently waiting for the situation to resolve itself, but we will have him back in action in a big fight on either July 24 or 31.

If both Joe and Daniel do the business in their next fights, we should be in a position of having Joe as mandatory for the WBO world title and the same for Daniel with the WBO, meaning we are future-proofing the world heavyweight titles for British fighters.

Back to Saturday night and, I have to say, it was a madhouse inside the Telford International Centre as we welcomed fans back into the fighting fold. It made such a positive difference to the evening’s events and the thousand fans made it sound like we had a full house.

Tommy Fury clocked up some valuable rounds and experience in his sixth fight against a very game Jordan Grant. I have to keep reiterating that Tommy is a work in progress who is learning on the job. He will come under additional scrutiny due to his summer of love on reality TV, but our job is to shape him up as a fighter and we cannot afford to be distracted or influenced by his popularity on social media.

Most of the fans, obviously, were there to see the Son of Stoke, Nathan Heaney, get another win under his belt and strengthen his case for a middleweight title shot. Our new signing, bantamweight Liam Davies, also attracted a massive following and I am looking forward to seeing more of him as we continue to put down further roots in the Midlands.

Another middleweight, Belfast’s Caoimhin Agyarko, is really starting to look the part and it was the most relaxed in the ring I have seen him in taking out Ernesto Olvera inside three rounds. It was only Caoimhin’s ninth fight as a pro, but he is already looking like a seasoned campaigner and I don’t believe there is any limit to what he can achieve.

Another debut-maker for us was 18-year-old welterweight George Bance who, I am told, is the youngest licence holder on the circuit. He carried a reputation of being a fearsome operator up from the amateurs and he didn’t give Jordan Ellison a look-in over four rounds on his opening night. Ellison is a proper test for fighters much more experienced than young George.

Well done also to Adan Mohamed, our young super bantam who doubled his win tally in fight No. 2 as a pro.

Stay tuned to our social channels for news of our July shows, which will be dropping very soon.

Trevor Bryan accepts Daniel Dubois Call

TREVOR BRYAN SUCCESSFULLY defended his WBA world heavyweight title belt on Saturday night before swiftly responding to a message from across the Atlantic sent by one Daniel Dubois.

Dubois is in mandatory position and next in line for a shot at the WBA title after the governing body granted Bryan permission for a voluntary defence against the largely unknown Jonathan Guidry.

The unbeaten Bryan, 22-0, made harder work of the fight than many probably imagined and the 32-year-old had to rely on the scorecards, which recorded a split decision victory for the New Yorker.

Dubois, 17-1, quickly acknowledged his future opponent’s victory before adding ominously: “But you are in my way. See you soon.”

Bryan readily accepted his next challenge and indicated that he is prepared for an away fixture for what will be a second defence of the belt he won by defeating Bermane Stiverne at the beginning of last year.

“Indeed we will little homie,” responded the executor of 15 KOs. “Cause as I said my campaign overseas will be starting very soon!”

Bryan signed off by borrowing the catchphrase of the voluble former heavyweight contender Shannon Briggs.

#LetsGoChamp

DANIEL DUBOIS ASSESSED the heavyweight landscape and concluded that he is destined to become the leading man of the division when his time comes.

The 24-year-old is ranked at No.1 by the WBA and a shot at the champion Trevor Bryan is set to be called by the governing body. The WBA, of course, also have a ‘super champion’ via unification which is currently Oleksandr Usyk, who is awaiting a rematch with the vanquished Anthony Joshua.

Dubois defeating Bryan would ultimately see him put forward to face the Usyk-Joshua winner, or perhaps an undisputed champion if the belts come together.

Dubois acknowledges there is a lot to play out before any such mystic matchmaking becomes a reality.

“Let’s see in the next couple of fights and where it goes,” reasoned Dubois, who is set to return to the ring in March to begin his assault on world honours. “I want to take one fight at a time. I want to be up there at the top level fighting the best, winning a world title and holding onto it for a good long time. That is my aim and is all I can say.”

On the next destination for three of the belts, Dubois reiterates the thinking that Joshua must enforce his physical advantages to be in with a decent shout of reclaiming his lost property. However, he considers his heavyweight countryman as a winner whatever direction the titles go in.

“It was a good win for Usyk and a good fight for both of them really, a win either way for Joshua. They have a rematch now and I don’t know how that will turn out.

“He has reached the top level and what more can he do? I was a little bit surprised by the fight and, like a lot of people, I am of the opinion that he should have roughed him up, been a bit more physical with him and used his strength.

“He did what he did and Usyk just used his skill and boxed. He is a superior boxer so it all came good for him.

“He could possibly win the rematch and has got a chance. He is saying all the right things about changing up and coming in with a different attitude, so we will see,” continued Dubois, who believes Joshua’s training situation is purely down to personal choice and he must do what is right for himself.

“He has got to do what is right for him and look out for No.1. If it is a right decision he feels he needs to make then so be it.

“For me you always have to change things up when it goes stale and when something is broken you need to try and fix it. Good luck to him.”

What happened to the WBA cleaning up and reducing their world champs to 1 per division?

And even if it is a BS title, Joe Joyce is too nice... he should be blasting his own promoter for positioning a guy he handily beat, ahead of him for this

Joyce is number 1 or mandatory with the WBO isn't he?

Even if DDD beats Bryan, he won't be considered a world champion in our eyes will he, and he won't be receiving a world title shot anytime soon either.

But this fight will probably be Bryan's biggest payday.
