Which are your last 5, Benny the Kid?

Of course lots of people have mentioned Jerry Quarry. That makes sense, as Quarry would definitely have held a world title if not for the fact that he was competing during the era of the "Big Four," who were Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, and Ken Norton.

The value of Quarry's career accomplishments, IMO, is measured by the fact that five of his nine career losses happened against three guys in the "Big Four." In other words, it usually took that kind of competition to beat Quarry. Jerry had a lot of success against the rest of the contenders.

My guess is that everyone agrees that Ali and Foreman were unquestionably ATG's, and that Frazier is either an ATG or a near-ATG. Norton qualifies as a near-ATG, I think. These facts explain the only reason why Quarry didn't pick up a world belt or at least a piece of the world crown during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

I agree in everything you said but about Smokin' Joe as a near ATG? The guy is an ATG at heavyweight and pound per pound. He won the biggest and most anticipating fight of all-time.
