Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021

vacant belt. But though no Joshua-Usyk fight has yet been announced it seems the two sides will come to a deal.

But either way, Warren said, Joyce has to “get out” and fight. It’s been seven months since “The Juggernaut” last fought, this his stoppage win over Daniel Dubois. Dubois has of course returned to action (wiping out Bogdan Dinu) and as Warren says, Joyce will be looking at Dubois and he will be feeling somewhat frustrated at his own inactivity. Warren, speaking with BT Sport Boxing, said Joyce will be back next month, either on July 24 or July 31. Carlos Takam and Tony Yoka are both possible opponents.

“If AJ vacates the (WBO) title, then Usyk will have to fight Joe,” Warren said. “But we can’t sit around and keep waiting, which we’ve been doing and doing. So Joe will fight either on the 24th or 31st of July and those two names (Takam and Yoka) are really on that list. He needs a big name, he needs to be in with a big name, and he needs to move forward. He’s gotta fight and he will be out next month.”

Joyce, 12-0(11) turns 36 in September and he doesn’t have the luxury of having time on his side. Takam, now 40 years of age and 39-5-1(28) has of course been in with everybody and he would make an interesting opponent for Joyce. As for Yoka, the 29 year old former amateur standout is just 10-0(8) as a pro and fight with Joyce would be a risky one for him to take; in fact, it would be a pretty bold move from both sides.

It seems Joyce will be facing a French fighter next. Whoever he fights next, it will be good to see Joyce back in action. After that big win over Dubois, Joyce has already been made to wait too long for his next bout.

It's funny, prior to beating DDD, no one mentioned JJJ's name..

After he KO'd him, Yoka, Chisora and a few others came out.

Although he's tough, beating Takam doesn't prove much, particularly now that Takam is 40. There's unfinished business with Yoka and it was always likely that they'd meet in the pro game, so now is as good a time as any with Joyce coming off a great win against Dubois.

I’d love yoka as an opponent, great story and a close fight. I’d accept takem due to how everything’s going lately. I expect worse to be the reality...

Yoka’s doing fine in France. No chance he’s brought over for a regular fight on BT against Joyce, particularly without a decent crowd.

Takam would be a really good keep busy fight but I’d be surprised if that happens too unless it’s incorporated within a Tyson Fury PPV.

I was hoping he'd fight triple B..... BBB....

But in all seriousness Yoka by far. Because of the Olympics, because Yoka is unbeaten, a decent name, and because I believe big Joe would get deserved revenge and flatten Tony.

F Warren after the fight:

“Yoka and Takam didn't want the fight so that's why Joe is fighting this ghanian chap.
He's a big guy and he's here to fight. it is what it is.. “

I wanted to vote neither.
Joyce has earned a go at a step higher than both those guys.
But then I thought, Yoka's a d*ck, wouldn't mind someone smashing him :box:

Either fighter would take it if the money was right, that is what it will come down to. I wonder if Joyce will continue to align himself with Fwank due to him having undisputed WBA world heavyweight champion Dubois and WBC champ Tyson. Going the independent (non-matchroom) route could keep Joe in the wilderness well into 2023. He turns 36 in a few months and surely aspires to do more with his career than eventually slap around Huck. Can't see Yoka taking it, Takam might if the offer is right. He realistically has no way of getting a title shot in his career without upsetting a contender so he might as well give it a go. Joyce vs Takam would be a good scrap.

I reckon it'll be Takam. As we all know, when we get told it's likely between two fighters it almost always ends up being the one we want the least, and Yoka will probably price himself out. Whatever, they're both good fights for Joe. I don't mind either. Takam's still a decent name.

Yoka should take it if he’s confident. Can get the EBU belt, and get a nice rankings as well.

Unless it’s on PPv there won’t be enough money in it for Yoka. Joe will want good money and Yoka’s getting fairly well supported by Canal+ in France, shares his cards with his wife and pre Covid drew fairly well. He’ll need good money to give that up and come over.

Yoka will never rematch Joyce unless its PPV, and Dubois was more highly thought of and even that wasn't PVV. If it's a good fighter it will be Takam, but I suspect Fish Eyes, with all the 'confidence' he's shown in Joyce so far (probably right up there in the top 5 of the division, in my opinion) won't be dipping into his wallet, so we'll get some shite opponent. Fwank has been unbelievably short-sighted in his management of Joyce. I don't expect that to change any time soon.

You would hope that the gold medal rematch 5 years after the olympics would be a massive fight. I’d love that fight to happen, but the general verdict is boxing fans wouldn’t care much. I get the USA market wouldn’t give a duck but surely France and UK could get behind it.

Quite a lot of normal people know who Joyce is: he's been interviewed with his Mum in the Sunday Times, been on Soccer AM I believe (although I never watch it)and has done a fair bit of press. A lot of my non boxing mates vaguely know who he is, which is something. He's still not PPV. Certainly until he has the right dance partner.

NOBODY knows who Yoka is. It's a great fight and Yoka shouldn't be written off: he's a good fighter, isn't he? Plus like you said, it's a rematch of a contentious Olympic super heavyweight final and so has has all the narrative and story ready to go: they're both bloody massive units, Joe's very earnest and likeable; Yoka's a smarmy sod. Plus in terms of national rivalry, the only way it could be better is if Yoka was German. The French have always hated the UK. It should sell itself.

But it won't. It's for the hardcores. I really hope it happens but I can't see it. Fwank would have to promote the arse out of it and he's not very good at that.

Looks like it’s gonna be Takam..

This is what Frank told The Mirror;

“The rematch between Joyce and Dubois is huge."

“I grew up when the British heavyweight scene was a case of who’d even think about winning world titles? Now it’s like a load of buses coming along. Once the AJ and Fury fight is done, assuming they win their respective fights, Joe will be in a great position whereby he is the mandatory and will fight the winner.

“Having said that, he has to win his fight against Takam and we want to keep him busy, so he’s out on July 24 and we go from there. But he has a tremendous pedigree and he knows he can’t afford to slip up if he wants his seat at the top table.”

Takam's a reasonable opponent all things considered. Far better for his standing than fighting a one round knock over job, but obviously more risk involved.

Can't say that I feel any need to see Joyce v Dubois 2 :shame: Joyce did the business and his career would gain more from adding new names to his rèsumè and defending his titles.

Agreed. Not sure why FW thinks the Dubois/Joyce rematch is huge. Neither are big ticket sellers in their own right and, for me, the first fight was conclusive and I’d like to see Joe move on.

It must be infuriating for Team Joyce to hear FW keep mentioning the rematch. If it had been the other way around then it wouldn’t be spoken about so much.

Takam’s a good fight though - hopefully it won’t be part of the Fury PPV.

Here’s the reason why they keep mentioning the rematch.

Dubois was ‘supposed to’ beat Joyce in the original fight. He was gonna be the star, heck he’s even got a world (interim) title before Joyce.

Now because Joyce won the fight, and to me it should be a one and done, because it was stoppage and also, I had Joyce ahead.

Frank will keep rematching Dubois and Joyce until Dubois wins, as he was originally supposed to. He’s the future for Queensberry and boxing long term.

I do feel for Team Joyce though..

I think Fwank signed Dubois up for some very lengthy, unusually long contract didn't he, and is still fuming: He bet the house on Dubois. That's why he'll keep banging on about the rematch because he's invested so much in Dubois. I kind of think Team Joyce aren't stupid and know Fwank wanted him to lose, but don't kick up any fuss as apparently without much help from Warren they've managed to engineer themselves into a decent position in the rankings and he's generally regarded as a top 10 fighter. Fwank's pockets aren't deep for Joyce: we all knew he'd go for the cheaper option in Takam. It's a decent stay busy fight against a respectable opponent who is tough and shouldn't be overlooked. He's also well known to the casuals having fought AJ and Chisora so it'll bring Joe more recognition should he look good.

It's a tricky situation. I think Eddie would probably treat Joe just as badly as Fwank. I don't know that, but I just get this feeling. You don't really hear Eddie mention Joe much, do you?
