I don’t know tbh.

The other methods have been more of a recent thing. To entice new audiences etc.

If they weren’t, you’d be hearing more inflated figures for example May-Pac did 6m etc.

I'm not sure either, but in terms of audience viewership figures from an objective source, Nielsen only started measuring streaming service ratings a couple of months ago.

It's complicated to gauge the actual PPV buys for the Mayweather-Paul circus event, because the Showtime app wasn't the only paid streaming platform covering it (i.e. FANMIO, Sling TV, Sony, as well as the traditional variety of cable and satellite providers).

Mike Coppinger says the one million buys figure is only the guaranteed minimum amount, meaning the Mayweather-Paul event could have achieved a much bigger number than what's currently being reported.

Seriously, shouldn’t this thread be in the Offal Topic section? :maybe:

The commercial success of the novelty Mayweather-Paul circus event is relevant to boxing’s “current scene”, because the more money these freak shows generate, the greater the likelihood we’ll see a lot more of them staged in the near future.

Professional boxers are known as “PRIZE fighters” for a rather obvious reason and the commercial aspect of the sport often dictates the bouts that can be made.

Money and professional boxing go hand-in-hand – with the former being a prerequisite to enable the latter.

That does not change the fact that it was a slow dancing exhibition, not a professional boxing event.

It can be just as thoroughly discussed (or disgusting) in the Offal Topic section.

It would be interesting to know the portion of illegal streamers, not just for this event, but for boxing generally.

Kinda terrifying if you care at all about boxing. Imagine you are a corporate suit working for the networks. You have no particular affinity for boxing, what you care about is the bottom line. You're going to be looking at the profit generated by this kind of ex-boxer v YouTube idol freakshow, and wondering why anyone'd bother making fights like say Taylor v Prograis for example.

Is this kind of meaningless shite the future of boxing?

Dana White confirms Logan Paul vs Floyd Mayweather pay-per-view numbers

UFC president Dana White was critical of the numbers generated by Triller Fight Club events featuring Jake Paul, but confirmed that the Showtime Sports promoted exhibition bout between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul did substantial numbers.

During the UFC 263 post-fight press conference on Saturday, White said, “Jake didn’t do a million (buys). His brother did a million. He and Floyd did a million.

“The last time we had a press conference I told you all the Triller stuff was a bunch of bullshit. They’re lying. The numbers… Those guys (Logan and Floyd) did that number. That’s a real number. They did that. Jake didn’t do that. Logan and Floyd did, and good for them.”
