Anthony Fowler vs. Sam Eggington - BBBofC Ordered

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

BBBofC orders Ted Cheeseman vs Troy Williamson and Anthony Fowler vs Sam Eggington

The British Boxing Board of Control has released the latest update on its suite of champions, which includes an intriguing development at super welterweight. They have ordered champion Ted Cheeseman to face Troy Williamson, who won an eliminator earlier this year, and contenders Anthony Fowler and Sam Eggington to face off in a new final eliminator.

All sides have until July 14th to hash things out and avoid a purse bid.

Cheeseman (17-2-1, 10 KO) knocked out Asinia Byfield for the belt in 2018, defended it with a split draw against Kieron Conway, then lost it to Scott Fitzgerald. After getting back on track by beating the aforementioned Eggington (30-7, 18 KO), he out-slugged James Metcalf in March to reclaim the now-vacant title.

Williamson (16-0-1, 12 KO) punched his ticket to a British title fight by stopping Kieran Smith in April. Seven of his last eight wins have come inside the distance, with only Harry Scarff managing to see the judges.

Though he hasn’t managed to secure a rematch with Fitzgerald, Fowler (14-1, 11 KO) has won five straight since that 2019 split decision defeat, while Eggington is 6-1 since a noteworthy loss of his own to Liam Smith. Both have already scored wins this year, Fowler over Jorge Fortea in March and Eggington over Carlos Molina in May.

Both of these figure to be a lot of fun, so let’s hoping they come together.

I don't think we see this.

Eggington seems to have settled with CH5 and Hennessy, on his own path..

May stay at 160 even.. Who knows..

Seems unlikely, unless Eggington's team agree to box Fowler on a DAZN show.

Sam must be enjoying the exposure he's finally getting on a free to view channel, so another reason to stay on his own course.

Yeah - and as much as I’d like to see this fight it’s also nice to see Sam headlining shows in the home corner- he 100% deserves it.

Sams old school i don't think exposure will spur him on its tough fights and challenges that spur him on. He takes fights where the opportunities are offered to him. Who wud of thought we wud have seen him up at middleweight. Hopefully mr peg will shed some light into their plans and options

I think one difference between the two is that Eggerton is more interested in the money whereas Fowler is more interested in the glory!

Nevertheless while I def don't rate Fowler above domestic standard, I think he will be too big, strong and fresh for the Midlands man and predict he will win inside the distance.

#Sam does want to get paid thats true but his two biggest pay days we turned down because they were not the right fights for him. Remember Sam has gone after every belt hes been offered and stayed to defend the british even when advised not too against skeete because he didnt want to vacate to avoid a tricky fight,Not the actions of someone more interested in money than glory.
Regarding the fight we are just going to see what happens whenever we get into a nice position we get offered a domestic fight that doesnt really do anything for us but does for the other guy. When Sam has had his bits of bad luck he doesnt get offered anything that favours him.
At 27 its time to take the fights that make sense and move him forward rather than the first one offered.
When Ted flat refused a rematch with him and matchroom just went with that because it made sense for Ted Sam realised at that point he needs to be a bit more selfish where his matches are concerned. The other fighter has got to bring something to the table a lot of the time its one way

At 27 he has achieved a lot more than plenty of more talented lads and hes showing things in sparring and recent performances that he is actually still learning and trying to improve his game.

He has def achieved a hell of a lot in his career and deservedly so, it's amazing he is still only 27.
Furthermore I also agree he can still move forward in his career. This is why career wise I think it's a bad fight, unless he gets paid the right money, but I don't think the risk reward is there for an eliminator.
Fowler is naturally a couple of weights bigger and stronger than your man, which in reality is his only advantage, I don't see him being better otherwise. Why give away size and weight advantages to a man where his size and weight is his strength.
It's one thing if a title or proper money is at stake, but for me it's too much risk for a bit of a payday. Matchroom aren't bringing Sam in to win, so it will be tough to get a decision too.
In my opinion there are better fights out there to give your man opportunity but I guess less well paid.

For me better to keep him winning on Channel 5 for inter continentals until their proper belt turns up.
He has the style to get the fans behind him, build up a following and hopefully earn enough cash.

The Wbc Silver is quite a well paid title to go for.It has paid much better than any of the inter titles Sam has won.

Sam kind of got stuck on the bad side of the bill when he was with matchroom so Im in no hurry to see how it works when hes the complete away guy lol.

Its been a lot of fun and very interestingworking with Sam I keep having people telling me still that he wont have a long career if he fights the way he does. When i point out hes a 9 year 37 fight pro that has been doing title fights since his 6th fight so hes already had a longer career than most title level guys they kind of go quiet and scratch there heads lol

He could retire at 36 with 75 pro fights and there would be people saying I told you hed have to retire fighting like that :o

what makes you think fowler is more about glory??

is it those wins over all those mediocre guys who look like theyve been brought up 2 divisions? cuz, comparing their careers, i know which one of them has been handled far more like a pampered a-side boi

egg was a british and euro champ has fought lots of respectable opposition, taking far more fights as b-side than fowler ever has

Exactly, Matchroom are paying to bring in the lighter guys, so Fowler won't be on the big bucks, he is getting the wins, the glory if you like!

If you are looking for a bloke who has done it the hard way, Sam is the man!

Matchroom and Fowler have been giving it the big one about him being a legendary world champ in waiting, so if they want the fight they have to pay the appropriate money. I'm not trying to teach you to suck eggs, you know far more than me, but I can see them having a Mickey Mouse top of the bill and having your man save the show as he is never in a bad fight. If they want to for a poxy eliminator they have to pay the big bucks or you can go back to channel 5 and build him up for a real title.

He should look for some big fights then, he's not getting any younger.

Perhaps he is earning enough cash from his cannibis oil, while boxing wise he is more interested in his profile.
