Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
Great matchup, this could be an interesting fight. A shame Takam isn’t a few years younger, but he is still a tough, durable fighter who always comes in shape.
I suspect Joyce by late stoppage simply because of his age.

Re: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
I think Eddie has bigger fights for Joyce whilst he waits for a title shot. Joyce is in a decent position with the WBO but unless the title is vacated then it will be, realistically, late 2023 by the time a unified champ needs to fulfil another mandatory.Cyclops wrote: ↑13 Jun 2021, 07:30I think Fwank signed Dubois up for some very lengthy, unusually long contract didn't he, and is still fuming: He bet the house on Dubois. That's why he'll keep banging on about the rematch because he's invested so much in Dubois. I kind of think Team Joyce aren't stupid and know Fwank wanted him to lose, but don't kick up any fuss as apparently without much help from Warren they've managed to engineer themselves into a decent position in the rankings and he's generally regarded as a top 10 fighter. Fwank's pockets aren't deep for Joyce: we all knew he'd go for the cheaper option in Takam. It's a decent stay busy fight against a respectable opponent who is tough and shouldn't be overlooked. He's also well known to the casuals having fought AJ and Chisora so it'll bring Joe more recognition should he look good.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑13 Jun 2021, 05:44Here’s the reason why they keep mentioning the rematch.maverick23 wrote: ↑13 Jun 2021, 05:30
Agreed. Not sure why FW thinks the Dubois/Joyce rematch is huge. Neither are big ticket sellers in their own right and, for me, the first fight was conclusive and I’d like to see Joe move on.
It must be infuriating for Team Joyce to hear FW keep mentioning the rematch. If it had been the other way around then it wouldn’t be spoken about so much.
Takam’s a good fight though - hopefully it won’t be part of the Fury PPV.
Dubois was ‘supposed to’ beat Joyce in the original fight. He was gonna be the star, heck he’s even got a world (interim) title before Joyce.
Now because Joyce won the fight, and to me it should be a one and done, because it was stoppage and also, I had Joyce ahead.
Frank will keep rematching Dubois and Joyce until Dubois wins, as he was originally supposed to. He’s the future for Queensberry and boxing long term.
I do feel for Team Joyce though..
It's a tricky situation. I think Eddie would probably treat Joe just as badly as Fwank. I don't know that, but I just get this feeling. You don't really hear Eddie mention Joe much, do you?
Dubois could be calling himself a world champ though before the end of the year if he fights and beats Bryan.
Fighting Takam is pretty good fight but who next? Eddie’s got Chisora, Parker, Whyte and either one of those would get more notice and money than Takam. Even fights with Zhang (who’s too 15 with a couple of sanctioning bodies last time I looked), Hrgovic in 12 months and I’d even prefer to see him fight Bakole over Takam.
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
The rematch will go the same way as the first fight. If there's more urgency required from Joyce, then he'll apply the necessary touches to beat Dubois again.
In the real world Whyte should be challenging Fury in July and Joyce should be boxing the winner of AJ v Usyk.
Then the rest of the contenders should be getting their cracks. Obviously Fury is doing nothing to help the situation, and any heavyweight champion is unlikely to defend more than twice a year, so backlog will build up or the other option is titles will be stripped

reading that fwank statement.......he mentions the rematch, but then basically says nothing else about it, and then states that joyce will fight the fury-aj winner once they are done with each other. he actually says nothin much about the rematch
i dont think he'd do the rematch before joyce has gotten a shot. i just think he was throwing in a bit of hype since they are both his guys

i feel for joyce, got robbed of a gold medal whitch would of turbocharged his carrer. still had a promicing start to a pro carrer, then went WBA way but it didnt particularly work, now he has gone WBO and it appears to not be working out perfectly. Needs to find good opponents but he is a nightmare opponent and i just cant see people fighting him unless its ordered.

i dont feel sorry for him yet, the shot at an aj-fury winner still well could happen and that's about the biggest thing he could possibly have in his career

Re: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
I guess i just feel bad for anyone that is already past prime before there breakout fight (i dont think joyce has had a breakout fight yet)... joyce has gone the WBO path, so in his way to a mandated title shot is a WBO mandatory between usyk and AJ, probably an elliminator, WBA mandatory, IBF mandatory, A potential undisputed fight and if that happens then a WBC mandatory.... every one of those fights will probably have a rematch clause so a loss just adds another fight into the mix.
Add in that he is 35 and with allegedly... just cant see a title shot till 2023 or later... Not that joyce necessarily deserves to be world champ, but i think if he had won the gold medal as he should that by now he would of had a world title shot..

37-41 is around the ideal age AJ likes to box so Joe should get a chance if AJ comes through, at least.

If the winner of AJ/Fury 1 and 2 (assuming they win their upcoming matches) decides to keep the titles then it could be late 2023 by the time Joyce gets a mandatory shot. The WBO mandatory will be sorted next so once you have the unifications then the other sanctioning body mandatories will come first.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑14 Jun 2021, 00:47 i dont feel sorry for him yet, the shot at an aj-fury winner still well could happen and that's about the biggest thing he could possibly have in his career
Dubois could be in line first if he becomes WBA Super mandatory.

Re: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
a title shot at an age like 37 is what he got himself into himself by turning pro so late, his career was always going to have to be short and to the point, with his big moment coming at an advanced age. he's not really in a bad position or been hard done by or particularly unlucky considering where he started.
turn pro, move quick, get a big lucrative fight in late 30s, retire............still seems fairly on track
matchups like takam aren't bad at all really anyway, he cant still keep momentum going and his reputation building. its not like joyce is one of these guys with an amazing, deep resume who is simply so proven that he cant be denied a shot. he arguably hasnt beat a top 15 fighter.

Joe needs to get away from Frank as soon as possible...Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑13 Jun 2021, 04:43 Looks like it’s gonna be Takam..
This is what Frank told The Mirror;
“The rematch between Joyce and Dubois is huge."
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
I think it's more the disgusting favouritism shown by allegedly to Dubois prior to and after the fight. He's already sacrificed one of the heavyweight prospects in his stable to Dubois in Gorman, and just thought Joyce would be more of the same. I think Joyce has moved up the ranks pretty well, but it's by being a good fighter, and not a well promoted one. Fwank paid for Dubois' rankings with some of the alphabet boys, and Joyce came along and nicked it off him.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑14 Jun 2021, 02:35 a title shot at an age like 37 is what he got himself into himself by turning pro so late, his career was always going to have to be short and to the point, with his big moment coming at an advanced age. he's not really in a bad position or been hard done by or particularly unlucky considering where he started.

but from what franlks been saying, sounds like hes prioritizing joyce getting a shot at aj/fury. the dub rematch talk is just some side hype since they are both his guys, and obvious he wants to keep building danny up for the long term. but i dont think hed actually be eager to make that any time in the next couple years. it would be after joyce has lost (or i guess a major title fight if he pulls of a huge win)

Takam’s been confirmed. Decent fight for Joe. Will be interesting to see how much Takam has left and how well Joe deals with the pressure. 2 guys that keep coming forward. Could be a class fight or a bit of an ugly one.
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
Interesting to see what Takam has left in the tank. This could be Joyce jabbing and moving from an aging Takam unable to land hooks. Could be retirement or a final hurrah against Yoka or similar should he lose this one (depending on how good he looks of course).

Not a bad opponent for Joyce. Carlos Takam always comes to fight, gives it his best effort.
In a division full of carefully-matched pampered prima donnas, Takam is a true ring warrior who's always been willing to fight anybody, anytime, anywhere.

I'm looking forward to it, they should meet in the middle of the ring basically. Beyond this, I would love to see Joyce face Chisora before xmas. That would be decent.maverick23 wrote: ↑16 Jun 2021, 08:04 Takam’s been confirmed. Decent fight for Joe. Physically, this will be Joyce's toughest fight of his career.

Takam has been in decent form since Chisora.
