I was watching that new channel on Sky ESPN Classics on channel 442 and they had Max Baer Vs Primo Carnera on.
Watching the fight I noticed that there was a lot of action for Heavyweights. They were pretty much fighting bell to bell. My question would be with the advances of training techniques and fitness programmes and the reduction from 15 rounds to 12, why can't the modern age produce fighters that can frequently fight bell to bell for 12 rounds instead of the hit and hug that most heavyweights adopt today?
Watchting Baer/Carnera, I didn't see many occasions when they held each other, they just got on with it and slugged it out and showed more stamina than nearly every Heavyweight today which I found weird for a fight way back in the 30's. Both guys were ripped as well. Shouldn't our fighters be fitter today?
