I think they've gone with this weightclass as they can get most of the big female names within one or two weightclasses. I don't think they will all be big fights, especially not compared to previous years, but some relevant names could be involved such as the below and should the right women get selected, this could get a lot of respect for Women's boxing as a number of these have proven ability.
There are a number of others who could make the weight, but have less notoriety, with good amateur records, pro titles and undefeated records that I imagine may also get spots instead of some of the above.
It’s a strange move. Why would Eddie, Bob, Lou Dibella be cool having their fighters work with another promoter when they can just put the fights on themselves as they’ve seemingly trying to do.
Until Harper got injured she was down for a unification bout, Mayer was meant to be doing the same and then they would have been matched. I’d be surprised if Taylor comes down from lightweight whilst Serrano has openly said she’s trying to unify at 126.
I would have thought that they wouldn’t have announced it without getting some of the top fighters signed up first so it will be interesting to see what happens. Certainly don’t think it’s a good move for them.

Eddie has already said, womens fights are much easier to make, unifications and undisputed fights are much easier to make.. Not much depth in any womens division really.
I think the list I put of potential competitors may have been hopeful, but if they are paying anything close to the prize money as before, they need most of these names. There are a few other names that may be get a look in such as Choi Hyun-Mi or a vet from a different division but they just don't have the name value that most of the above do to make it remotely profitable to stage. Most of these Women won't get a better opportunity to make this sort of money in the sport unless things change significantly before they retire so you'd think they'd try and pressure their promoters into letting them compete.
cant see them putting up the same prize money as before, unless they want to make some 'equality' statement while giving 0 f@cks about the reality of what female boxers will fight for and how much money they will generate
Women's title fights are 10 rounds for 2 minutes each. That is one reason they cannot make as much money as men. There have been only a few women's fights that were 12 rounds for 3 minute each. It would be better for women's boxing and this tournament if they were scheduled to fight as long as men.
