To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Looking into this a little further. I'm guessing the board update matched the release of a new version of the backend this board uses:
https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2591971
however, given that board seems to work perfectly fine on this smartphone, I'm going to take a guess that some custom changes were made that screwed things up a little. Specifically the plug in that allows you to "continue with Google" / "Continue with Facebook" /or Sign-in
I noted the board in the link does not include such a pop-up when registering.
Also another thing to point out. When I do click on "continue with Facebook" I get the following message:
Error
App not set up: This app is still in develoent mode, and you don't have access to it. Switch to a registered test user or ask an app admin for permissions
This doesn't just affect the forum by the way, but the main site as well. The main site you can log-in to access the extra resources, but the Facebook button brings up the error message.
Edit:
I'm starting to think it was trying to unify the log-in on the main site (i.e. log in through boxrec) with the way the forum users often registered independently is causing the problems.

Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Yeah from the main boxrec.com screen. Never an issue. I use Chrome as my browser. Maybe clear cookies and try again.
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Just logged out and tried to log back into the forum, and it was a nightmare. had to find a thread to respond to and then login from there.
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Now I can't log into the main site. Sorry i tested this.
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Oh crap, really? Sorry that happened. I'll add a warning to not test this at the top of the thread, if your account is in a stable state.
Btw, you should still be able to log into the main page okay. But it might require a second sign in.
Basically I was always able to log into the database using my original account. But it was no longer linked to the forum account. So I would then have to log in with the "post reply" method to use the forum.
So you "should" still be able to log into the main page (database) independently of the forum.
It's a pain, but you may still have access.
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
I'm fully logged in now. I just wanted to see what the problem was. I keep the 'keep me logged in' button on. I can see this being a problem if one uses their phone for boxrec. It's actually verging on unusuable depending on which phone you have.
I have some basic developer tools on my computer, so I had a look at the encoding of the layout for the forum and how it interacts with some popular phone models. For one certain phone the layout was a complete mess, making the forum unreadable. Tablets and desktop users seem to have no problem, luckily.
I think I can actually see where some of issues may lie with the layout code. But I haven't done web design in over 10 years and this is all academic if none of the mods/admin read the thread.
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Amazing and ridiculous all at once. It would be a disgrace for the forum admins to quit supporting it.Finkel wrote: ↑17 Jun 2021, 23:40oogiebe wrote: ↑17 Jun 2021, 23:32I'm fully logged in now. Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Mine seems ok now- working better than ever
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Miraculously, the login is working properly now. Admittedly, I had not tried the normal login in weeks.
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Log-in from the boxrec.com
or
Log-in from boxrec.com/forum
?
Log-in from the the main page isn't an issue for me.
But the log-in button still doesn't work for me on the forum.
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Also I suspect it's the inclusion of the log-in button that has messaged up the lay out of the style sheets.
The CSS sheets seem to have been edited to best align with the position of the button.
Rather than the Log-in Button being positioned within the context of the existing layout.
It is what is causing the forum pages to be a few pixels too big on the right hand side of the screen, which gives a floaty feeling to the page under the touch. i.e. the boarders are no longer snapping to the width of the smartphone display.
That I can't fix, as I suspect that is also an issue of the placement of the log-in button.
However I can suggest the below changes to the CSS files to make it a far nicer experience for smartphone users.
TO THE ADMIN
The below edit would be greatly appreciated. It will fix the issue with the text being too tight against the left of the screen for smartphone users. As I say, this will make the experience using the forum on a smart phone far more pleasant than it currently is.
The Next suggested edit will make the layout fractionally nicer, but it is probably a better idea to fix the positioning of the Log-in button and then take things from there.
p.s. you might want to trial this before updating it on the server. This is just a suggestion...

FINDFind the CSS file:
responsive.css?v=1.1.3
REPLACE WITH/* Post

.postbody {
position: inherit;
}
.postprofile, .postbody, .search .postbody {
display: block;
width: auto;
float: none;
padding: 0;
min-height: 0;
}

Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Packed up again
Re: is the log in situation ever going to be sorted or is boxrec officially shit now?
Dan has just tried another fix, any good ?
Re: is the log in situation ever going to be sorted or is boxrec officially shit now?
The log-in button now works on my smart phone.
edit: it works with Chrome and IE too
edit 2: It also works on iPad, and the log-in via Google also works.

Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
Mine was fixed today, at last.
Re: is the log in situation ever going to be sorted or is boxrec officially shit now?
Cheers for resolving the primary issue.
Just in case you didn't see the above.
From my end the log-in button now works with:
Chrome
IE
iPad (Safari)
Android Phone
Also the log-in with Google feature now works, too.
The log-in with facebook feature doesn't appear to work. The error message I reported earlier in the thread is still there. But I prefer my anonymity, so that no big deal for me. (It might be for others though...)
But any chance you can make the above suggested edit to the CSS file? It shouldn't affect how the page is viewed on desktops, but it would hopefully make the experience on smartphones a lot nicer.
Re: is the log in situation ever going to be sorted or is boxrec officially shit now?
I have made the css changes hopefully to the correct breakpoints but it may still be cached. I'll try clearing on the server.Finkel wrote: ↑18 Jun 2021, 09:47Cheers for resolving the primary issue.

Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
The layout is still a bit one sided.. on my phone that is..
Re: To the Board Admin - You need to fix the log-in process
That's good. The admins (Dan and John) said they fixed that issue just before your post.

As mentioned by Ruthless-RKO above, there is still a problem for smartphone users with the text when reading threads being too tight against the left hand side of the screen.
Maybe you tried this already and it didn't work, from my end the below seemed like a quick fix for that problem (be it a short term solution). I'm using the developer tools built into the IE browser to emulate how edits to the style sheet would effect smart phones - though the problem may look very different on your end.
responsive.css?v=1.1.3
Hope it helps, if not - Good Luck!/* Post
