Michael Hunter was only with Matchroom for fourteen months. And the UK was in lockdown for about four months of that timeframe.

A fight between Hunter and Hrgovic wouldn't be big in the UK or anywhere else in the world, hence the small winning purse bid.

I'm not even sure if another promoter even bothered to submit a purse bid to rival the one supplied by Matchroom.

I'll say it one more time, $364K is a small purse.

Other heavyweights have rejected opportunities to engage in IBF eliminators for bigger sums.

Michael Hunter has even confirmed he'd rejected the Hrgovic fight, because he was capable of earning better money elsewhere (as per his deal with Triller).

I accurately predicted that Hunter would reject the Hrgovic bout on the 21st April (due to financial reasons), with Hunter eventually declining the fight on the 10th May.

It was an easy prediction to make.

And I don't know why you're actively looking to creatively fabricate excuses to justify your accusation of Hunter "ducking" Hrgovic.

He’s been the underdog when he fought opponents with better resumes than Hrgovic, and he’s also shared the ring with men rated above Hrgovic.

Hunter’s decision was purely financially motivated.

I’m not disputing that he turned down the fight because he didn’t think the purse was worth the risk of getting beat. It just frustrates me that he spoke about wanting big fights, fight for titles and even offered to fight a few fighters for free yet turns down the quickest route to a legitimate title shot and then signs to fight a borderline unknown on Triller.

I was disputing the fight that they would have had the fight in the U.K. as they almost certainly wouldn’t have done. You mentioned lockdown yourself - when the purse bid was won the U.K. wasn’t staging shows for many fans. We’re still limited to 1,000 fans per show. They would have more likely planned for it in the US or Croatia.

not even talking about fornicating wba.

their crooked & senseless machinations are just too retarded to be seriously discussed.

plain idiocy, they already destroyed their legacy for whatever it was worth and are just cementing their status as the most fucked up boxing org.

how that wilson guy got the spot in that joke of an 'eliminator' for a shot at whichever of the meaningless 'wba' shit straps is just beyond.

one explanation: corruption.

hunter is considered a serious contender, he shouldn't bother engaging in an obvious bullshit fight. what is he getting out of beating that guy?

fornicate the wba. fornicate their meaningless random 'world whatever belts'.

It really must grate with the IBO that nobody recognizes their belt as one of the big four or takes them seriously. I don't know much about them but I find it hard to believe they could be anywhere near as horrendous as the WBA even with a lot of practice.

The trouble is the fans have no power to influence anything. The promoters, the networks, even the fighters are very happy with the status quo.

If you're a good fighter but not a great one, are you going to want a boxing meritocracy where there is one world title per weight division and only those who have earned it are going to get a title-shot, or are you going to prefer the present fustercluck where there are a plethora of belts, where any are within grabbing distance provided your people grease the right palm?

Promoters and networks also like the fact they can sell their fight between two relative mediocrities as a fight for the WBZ interim silver light super-welterweight title. Of course this isn't what boxing fans want but who gives a sh*t about what those mugs want?
