Glen Johnson is an undefeated world champion
That's what it says on the SN presser for Woods-Johnson 3.
Since he lost his title fight to Tarver, how can he be an 'undefeated world champion'?
He has some 9 losses on his record. How is he unbeaten?
Why are pressers so full of nonsense?
Does it ever piss anyone off when ring announcers announce somebody as 'formerly undefeated'? That one always gets me.

Johnson & tarver gave up their alphabet titles to fight each other in the most meaningful fight at that time. hence it was considered in most quarters as for the genuine world title
as johnson was so naff in the tarver rematch, he was very much defeated as world champion (coming off a win over tarver)

The term 'undefeated world champion' means, he is undefeated as a world champion and never lost his championship in a fight.' SN Are 100% accurate in their statement

You guys should be embarrassed. 'Former undefeated former journeyman with nine or ten or however many it is losses! ' is that how Michael Pass is going to introduce him?
Wow, he was undefeated in three fights for the IBF title, one of which he drew. Then he beat Tarver for what was recognised in most quarters as the genuine 175-lb championship, because they basically said fornicate it, instead of doing mandatory defenses we'll fight each other in the division's most meaningful fight. Ring and most websites acknowledged it as a fight for The light heavyweight championship. And then in a rematch for said title, whose value has just been outlined, he gets totally schooled in the rematch
The first fight was a breath of fresh air. The 2nd fight they looked so bad no one gave a shit & felt that the other guys like briggs and Adamek might be ready to take over... The 'title' then lost its meaning with Tarver not having to defend against anyone except Roy Jones, and then obviously Hopkins puts us all out of our misery
no matter, Johnson gave up one championship for another and got beaten for said championship. So what SN say is toss
Undefeated in fights as 'IBF titlist' (a stunning 2-1 record), 1-1 in fights for the genuine light heavy crown, and 0-2 in fights for the IBF 160 & 168lb titles
"Hailing from Jamaica via Florida, bringing his middling record into the ring, please welcome, Glen Johnsonnnnnn"
Re: Glen Johnson is an undefeated world champion
Save it for the ITV viewers BC, you might fool some of them. It ain't washing here. And 'undefeated world champion' does not mean 'he is undefeated as a world champion and never lost his championship in a fight'. It would mean he is A: World Champion. And B: Undefeated. Johnson is neither of these things.boxingchat wrote:fried bread wrote:That's what it says on the SN presser for Woods-Johnson 3.

An accurate description would be 'Undefeated as a World Champion'. And even that's up to debate, given the Tarver fights.
Re: Glen Johnson is an undefeated world champion
Shouldn't it be undefeated IBF title.... bogus or not the IBO sanctioned both Tarver fights and it was billed for the IBO world championship. So he has lost as a world champion.boxingchat wrote:fried bread wrote:That's what it says on the SN presser for Woods-Johnson 3.
