Light heavyweight scene

Post by Cent0089 »

We have Ramirez - Barrera fight scheduled. Winner should go against Bivol since they are with Matchroom, right? Beterbiev and Smith are with Top Rank, that should be also be easy to made, why are they so quiet ? There are Badou Jack and Marcus Browne too, damn just bring on some fights :(

top rank made the bert-gvo unification, so it makes me hopeful that smith-bert will happen and they just need to get moving

ramirez just signed with golden boy and said bivol is his who he wants, but gilby seems to do more talking than meaningful fighting these days

Did nothing as a SMW either except being a belt hoarder.

he had a good 2015-2017, where he beat abraham, vlasov, and hart the first time. hes not one of these total frauds who has never done anything; he's shown he can get good wins

but for the last 4 years or so, all that should've been prime years in his career, he's just become increasingly 'who cares'

seems to have little to desire to fight good opposition and is more about padding his record out relatively risk free

Canelo versus Beterbiev after Canelo versus Plant.

This is being talked about by Matchroom and Team Canelo.

Beterbiev has received far more praise than he's earned inside the ring. And I think that Team Canelo feels he's tailor-made for Alvarez.

Beterbiev lacks head movement, his work-rate is too low, he loads-up on his punches, his hands aren’t particularly fast, he blocks shots using a high guard rather than avoid them using footwork/upper body movement, which means he's vulnerable to hooks to the body, he's been dropped and staggered etc.

And in the Adam Deines fight, Beterbiev's jab was poor and under-utilised.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, accusing me of being a "hater", Beterbiev himself was very critical of his own performance against Deines. Some of the things I've stated, he's said himself.

I think the Canelo-Beterbiev fight happens soon, with the Mexican scoring a surprisingly easy victory over the Russian.

Styles makes fights. :TU:

Though canelo can do what he wants, I'd be surprised if he fought on ESPN. His guarantee is huge and though it would be a traditional ppv, not sure beterbiev would generate enough buys. Maybe arum would take a shot if he's confident. He's not one to toss away money.

"Canelo Alvarez eyeing step up in weight to face dangerous Russian champion Artur Beterbiev who boasts 100 per cent KO ratio, reveals Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn"

Canelo Alvarez is considering a move to light-heavyweight again to challenge elite champion Artur Beterbiev (16-0, 16 KOs), his promotional partner Eddie Hearn has revealed.

In 2019, the Mexican superstar jumped up two divisions from middleweight (160lbs) to light-heavyweight (175lbs) and knocked out Sergey Kovalev to claim the WBO world title.

While Kovalev was the king at this weight for a long time, he’d been stopped twice and showed signs of his age (36) by the time Canelo faced him.

After this win, Canelo dropped back down and settled at super-middleweight (168lbs).

He’s since beaten Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders to take the WBA, WBC and WBO world titles.

He just needs Caleb Plant’s IBF belt to become a rare undisputed champion.

This is the target for his next fight but, after that, a return to light-heavyweight may be on the cards.

Hearn told Little Giant Boxing: “We’re going to talk through the next move.

“Of course, we’ve made it clear we want the Caleb Plant fight and it’s time to start getting that into full process now.

“He’s probably ready to get back to work now. Ultimately, Saul [Canelo] and Eddy [Reynoso] will tell me what to do…

“Canelo Alvarez is the absolute pound-for-pound king, he has the right to fight whoever he wants.

“But the good news is he’s fighting champion after champion after champion. He will fight anyone.

Maybe after this he’ll go to light-heavyweight and he may fight Artur Beterbiev and he may fight Dmitry Bivol.

He doesn’t care, he doesn’t care. He told me about Beterbiev.

I said, ‘Woah, shouldn’t we fight Bivol first?’ [He said], ‘No, we want him.’

“That’s the beauty of Saul Alvarez, he will fight anyone.”
