I boxed him in the amateurs, I am 5”7, I was knocked down twice as an amateur and Ady was responsible for one of them.polecateddy wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 07:21 Ady Lewis was good at British level at fly and bantam despite only being 4’10’’.

what's it like boxing a dude almost a foot shorter? i imagine it would feel awkward to throw punches at such a low targetlittlepug wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 17:12I boxed him in the amateurs, I am 5”7, I was knocked down twice as an amateur and Ady was responsible for one of them.polecateddy wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 07:21 Ady Lewis was good at British level at fly and bantam despite only being 4’10’’.

He’s up there for me as my favourite. Just a natural fighter in every sense. Far greater than he’s given credit for.Teddy's Toupee wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 17:52My favourite fighter. No amateur experience and didn't start boxing until his mid twenties. His first bout with Holyfield is a brilliant display of toughness and skill. He was also much shorter than Holyfield.

Nice one James.jameswilson wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 04:58 Tommy Langford 6ft getting planted head first in the ground by Kurstidze (sp) 5ft6 tall and 5ft 6 wide.
That one stands out to me as well.
Shame things went the way they did for Kurstidze, as after the Langford fight I wanted to see if he could do that at the next level.
Bloody weird head too, like an asteroid battered by a meteor shower

From prison to world champion in three years, and some people think ex-olympians are doing well to win a world title four years into pro careers now. They definitely made them differently back then.Wee Tommy wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 18:31He’s up there for me as my favourite. Just a natural fighter in every sense. His innate skill level was incredibly high. He was a natural street fighter and had been a very tough guy before boxing. His life story is very interesting. I remember him popping up in the ESPN tournaments, first time I saw him, Frank Fletcher and freitas too. True. Most boxers are used to fighting guys similar size to themselves. Punching down often means you leave yourself more open.

Yeah like he’s been shot . I reckon the character Bullet tooth Tony in Snatch was somehow based on him.KiwiRider wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 18:40Nice one James.jameswilson wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 04:58 Tommy Langford 6ft getting planted head first in the ground by Kurstidze (sp) 5ft6 tall and 5ft 6 wide.

For me it was difficult, easier said than done keeping him at the end of your jab, and he was pretty quick with the counters, he was also built like a little tank so had good power, I was always quite tall at the weight but that was another level!margaret thatcher wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 17:37what's it like boxing a dude almost a foot shorter? i imagine it would feel awkward to throw punches at such a low targetlittlepug wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 17:12I boxed him in the amateurs, I am 5”7, I was knocked down twice as an amateur and Ady was responsible for one of them.polecateddy wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 07:21 Ady Lewis was good at British level at fly and bantam despite only being 4’10’’.

His only other stoppage loss was a corner retirement against George Foreman. He was catching Foreman with some big right hands and was never knocked down in the bout. He claimed his retirement was due to not being fully fit. It was his first bout back after the Holyfield K.O. He was also much shorter than Foreman.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 20:01I remember him popping up in the ESPN tournaments, first time I saw him, Frank Fletcher and freitas too. Re: much shorter guys winning
The late Jimmy Cable was incredibly tall for a light-middleweight and he was beaten a few times at the weight. A Welshman by the name of Horace McKenzie took him out with a body shot but Jimmy came back to win British and European titles.

Re: much shorter guys winning
Someone posted a clip years and years ago. Looked a little like qawi but reasonably sure it wasn’t. The guy he was leathering looked to be at least a foot and a half taller.

Former light middle Jorge Castro (about 5ft 8ins) stopped legit world class cruiserweight Imanu Mayfield (about 6ft 4ins...) Mayfield might have been shot then but Castro had about 100 fights by then...
