Re: Name Three Fights That You Won’t Ever Forget
1. Mike Weaver-John Tate
its my oldest memory of a specific fight and it had an amazing KO in round 15. I was 11 I think.
2. Tyson-Douglas
Goes without saying. Anybody who saw it live will put it on their list. You have to.
3. Pac-Marquez 4
Final fight in their great series with disturbing KO at the end. Never forget that.

Re: Name Three Fights That You Won’t Ever Forget
Nice one Oog. I couldn't begin to narrow it down to three but that's a fine selection.
The trouble is with the 'never forget' which could be for any number of reasons not necessarily because ir was a great fight. I mean I'll never forget Vernon Sollas v Elio Cotena (European Featherweight title at York Hall, East London) where Sollas battered the guy for 14 rounds and fell apart at the end. I was there to see that, but one fight I'll never forget, Ken Buchanan v Roberto Duran I only read about at the time, such was its impact. John Stracey v Jose Napoles, Lloyd Honeyghan v Don Curry, even Joe Frazier v Ron Stander due to Ron's amazing refusal to go down in the face of an onslaught that left him looking like he'd been through a meat grinder. Not even a competitive fight but I'll never forget it.
This is all from my early boxing memories, never mind the hundreds of more recent ones. I'm sure you're the same.

Re: Name Three Fights That You Won’t Ever Forget
I thought Balbi edged that fight but Dorin was being a bit hyped at the time. Great fightgilgamesh wrote: ↑01 Jul 2021, 23:20 As far as Fights I've watched Live.
1. Gatti vs Ward 1 - I had already become a fan of Gatti even from a one sided beatdown of Terronn Millett there was just something about the guy I liked. The Millett fight was the first I had seen of him. When I saw this fight, I mean wow. It was just unforgettable. Epic. Hell you all know.
2. Leonard Dorin vs Raul Balbi 1 - This was the undercard of Micky Ward vs Jesse James Leija. January 5th, 2002. I know that off the top of my head without looking it up. Boxing had already captured my interest, a few months prior to this I had started watching and following the sport closely. This fight right here is when Boxing became my new Religion. Largely forgotten by fans today. It'll never be forgotten by me. This fight is why I'm still here talking about Boxing all the time almost 20 years later. This fight was the one that made a Boxing Junkie outta me.
3. Diego Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo 1 - Aside from the epic action of this fight, I can't lie this one was bittersweet for me. For months I had told everyone that Castillo was gonna knock out Corrales in the 10th round. After a f*cking epic war, he dropped him twice in the 10th, and it looked for all the world like my prediction was coming true, and I was over the moon excited watching it unfold, and then Corrales turned the tables, and battered Castillo and the fight was waved off with Corrales being the winner. I was so overwhelmed with emotion I actually cried. The only time ever I cried at a Boxing match. I was shocked. Speechless for several minutes. In time I've come to just appreciate it as the great fight that it was, but I never forget that emotion I felt as I watched it unfold live.
I could name you several others that are seared into my memory, but these are the 3 that the thread asked for.
Re: Name Three Fights That You Won’t Ever Forget
Impossible to do three, but three I won't forget off the top of my head:
1. Bazooka Gomez v Lupe Pintor, 1982 The most brutal yet skillful fight I can remember seeing. It's a miracle both went on to win other titles after that
2. Ali-Frazier I, 1971. The first fight I went to see in a movie theater. Ultimate boxer v puncher fight. Frazier's head looked like somebody beat him with a baseball bat afterward, which could be said for some of his later fights as well, but the left hook that put Ali down was sweet and Ali was pretty beat up by the end
3. Monzon v Valdez II, 1977. Monzon's last fight. Valdez puts Monzon down - the first and only time he'd been on the deck - but Monzon stages a rally, boxes beautifully and beats a prime Valdez for the second time. Monzon had arthritis in his right hand through most of his title reign and retired after that fight.

Totally agree. I almost included Mike Nixon vs Mike Rossman. It was Friday Night Fights and the first time I saw Rossman. He ended it with a tremendous overhand right. I was out of my seat. I could've named 100 fights.candyslim wrote: ↑02 Jul 2021, 03:12Nice one Oog. I couldn't begin to narrow it down to three but that's a fine selection.

I thought the decision was fair, but it was close enough that it could've went either way. Dorin definitely got cut the f*ck up. I remember Steward saying he thought Balbi won, but if he was in either corner he wouldn't complain.giacomino wrote: ↑02 Jul 2021, 09:14I thought Balbi edged that fight but Dorin was being a bit hyped at the time. Ali v Frazier 1 and Ali v Foreman I won't forget because I watched them as a kid with my dad.
Tyson v Douglas is also unforgettable as I was going through a bad time in my life and that just made it worse.
They're the 3 obvious ones but I could have mentioned almost any of Tommy Hearns fights esp those against Hagler and Duran.

Rhodes - Moore.
I'm a Sheffield lad and have met Ryan a few times. It was an incredible, come from behind win.
Fury - Wilder ii.
Watched the first think Wilder would get a come from behind KO. Watched the second thinking Wilder would get a come from behind KO. Watching Fury absolutely smash Wilder, the way Fury was moving... He was brilliant that night.
(And in case anyone was wondering, my pick for the next fight is..... Wilder to get a come from behind KO... Punchers make me nervous)
Hamed - Kelly
Went to a mates house to watch it. We were screaming at the TV throughout. Proper little barnstormer, that one.

That was the golden age of light-heavyweights: Franklin/Saad Muhammad, Braxton/Qawi, Galindez, Conteh, Rossman, Yaqi Lopez, James Scott ... the list just goes on. Not only that but they actually used to fight one another! How's that for a radical concept.oogiebe wrote: ↑02 Jul 2021, 10:59Totally agree. I almost included Mike Nixon vs Mike Rossman. To be honest, it's a crime to put Tyson fury name in list of 3 unforgettable fight ever.
Re: Name Three Fights That You Won’t Ever Forget
I saw it on a Spanish UHF channel in NY that showed fights from the forum a week after it occurred without knowing the outcome. Used to have to wait for my boxing illustrated to arrive to know what happened in the boxing world.

I watched it a couple of weeks ago on You-tube along with fights involving Wilfredo Gomez and Salvador Sanchez. What a fighter he was. Who knows what he might have gone on to achieve if he hadn't been taken so young. 23 IIRC.oogiebe wrote: ↑03 Jul 2021, 08:44I saw it on a Spanish UHF channel in NY that showed fights from the forum a week after it occurred without knowing the outcome.
