He didn’t take the loss well and everything after that point would suggest it’s psychological, given his very outward shows and public outbursts.

Contrast that with say, late career Jermaine Taylor or meldrick Taylor and it’s quite clear that it’s very different behaviour.

When you think punchy or punch drunk you think garbled speech patterns like James Toney or Bobby chacon. Or marked physical deterioration like Ali or roach.
It's much, much easier for my conscience watching the sport to come to the conclusion that he was just a massive dickhead all along and the subsequent money and long knockout streak massaged his enormous ego into thinking he was some kind of superhero and he has been psychologically absolutely destroyed by his embarrassing loss.

A lot of this stuff was there before Fury anyway: the Eyes Wide Shut Illumanti consumes, the grandiosity, his inability to form a proper sentence, the "I'm part human and part hybrid" line, punching mascots, strangling strippers, booooommmmb sqqquuuuad, the way he just stood square in front of a fat, out on his feet Stiverne with his hands down before knocking him out and then throwing the ref around the ring when he pulled him off, saying he wanted to catch a body multiple times, actually bringing Charlie Zelenof, a 5'9" former lightweight who has never beaten anybody and is clearly mentally ill, to his gym to beat him up, on camera... None of this is indicative of an intelligent, nice, well rounded individual.

Can you imagine working out in the same gym as him? If you didn't know who he was and him and his mates were jumping around and screaming and making train noises? "fornicating hell I hate that group of lads with the big loud geezer. They only ever do chest and arms, don't they? Thank God they're gone!"
Yeah, totally. I was following some food channel on IG and they introduced some new people and I had to unfollow because they were super annoying. Just shouting all the time and making sentences that were gibberish. If only real world people were that easy to unfollow. I don't need some ringpiece shouting about fck all.

To be honest, all I really remember about Wilder was him coming to the UK and being reasonably normal but that was some time ago, he was at some show I was at and I remember him being just like most boxers hanging around at ringside. Yeah I remember the CZ stuff, that was just weird but apparently he'd been making comments about his disabled daughter or something. To be honest I try block out the noise, particularly twitter and the way people slavishly just repeat it endlessly. I just tune it out, I barely watch boxing now because of the way it's gone and complete retards think their opinion is valid or important because they can put it out there.

He always struck me as a bit thick but I'm not looking for a Nobel prize winner in boxers.

I suspect not. 240lbs is 108kg and although that’s fairly heavy. Most gyms in the UK have multiple people who do that for reps and sets who weigh less than Froch does.
If you can bench 108kg you definitely don’t brag on national tv about it when you’re supposed to be an elite athlete.
I’m guessing he can bench 150kg plus… maybe… which is good but we all know how much of an ego Carl is.
Should’ve said 180kg and that’s impressive for anywhere around 13st and more believable.
Froch will always be a Froch tho.

I thought he just did fairly light weight circuits mainly. I'd still think 150kg would probably squash him on a bench, unless he had a spotter helping pull it up.

It's one of those weird paradoxes where the bloke doing all the talking pretty clearly doesn't know that the more he says and the louder he says it, the less credible he becomes... i suppose that is what gives it the cringe quality.

Even Breland couldn't teach Wilder technique.
He is a right hand, period. Unless that lands he's done.
And as the injuries mount up that will go away too.

I benched 130 kilos X 8 when I was 25.

I dont know how much it helps in punching power.

He doesn’t have a right hand. Never seen him throw one.

A right swing that’s six foot in length, sure. Only works against sacks of shit, punch bags or scared old men.

It certainly wont hurt in one-punch-power? More muscle mass, higher weight.

Wilder generates power from torque, so he throws from his hips and his skinny legs and his upper body follows kind of like a flail: like putting a rock in a sock. If you hit somebody with a rock, it'll hurt, but put the rock (or a battery or a tin or beans or whatever) in a sock and the recoil from the sock generates much more force. So yeah, as long as he retains that looseness so that the recoil is there, then the extra weight might help in terms of punching power. It amazes me that you can listen to supposedly educated fight commentators wonder where his power comes from and all you have to do is Google 'double hip punch' and you'll see why he generates so much power. Throwing that style of punch is very messy and puts you off balance though... If you do your research you'll see why. But yeah, people like Geoff Thompson, Peter Constantine, Dennis Jones and John Anderson were teaching that stuff in the 90's and early 2000's. It's not some great mystery. It'll bang out somebody dead in a street fight but, because of the separation between the throw and the actual punch, it's very telegraphed unless you use something to disguise it.

I don't reckon Wilder even knows that he's throwing that kind of punch though.

Not that it matters: the fight isn't happening is it?

Can’t imagine how benching helps punch power but I’m open-minded. What I do know… benching with the form Wilder has he’s running the risk of really hurting his shoulders. Absolutely zero stability and the way the weight is moving instead of a normal ROM suggests that if he keeps benching his max like this he will have serious mobility issues in his 40s.
140kg isn’t massive comparably. But it can easy fornicate you up.
