Hearn on Charlo: "I think they were a bit lucky with the Montiel fight, to be honest with you"

Post by apollo creed »

“I think they were a bit lucky with the Montiel fight, to be honest with you,” Hearn said on The DAZN Boxing Show. “Because Montiel is not an elite level fighter, and although Charlo won virtually every round, it was an OK fight, it was quite competitive. Charlo has to be careful that he doesn’t start fighting to that level because he’s a brilliant fighter.”

“When you’re Charlo, you’ve to be careful that you don’t almost become a Terence Crawford and keep taking these fights that are going to deplete your value,” continued Hearn. “He’s in his prime, Charlo, so is Demetrius, but the more they keep taking those kinds of fights, the more they’re going to miss their boat, and the more they’re going to miss their prime. So, I just hope that something can be done to make that fight.”

“You have Charlo, fantastic fighter, American world champion, and Demetrius Andrade, fantastic fighter, American world champion, both middleweights. If we can’t make that fight we should just pack up,” said Hearn. “If there were two middleweights in Britain that wanted to unify, it’s quite a straightforward thing to happen. Charlo’s now saying the right things. But it’s going to take [PBC creator] Al [Haymon] or Showtime or us to make the offer and for someone to say, ‘Yes, that’s the right thing for both guys.’ I think we all agree that that is the right fight for both.”

Hearn is right and I think he really wants to make this fight. I think from his side and Andrade there is no real issue, but Charlo seems to hide under the pbc / lions only, "i'm not a matchmaker", "don't talk with me, talk with this and that" type of words.

Also Hearn made them a good offer for this fight.

Charlo already turned down $7 million to fight Andrade. Not happening.

Do you not find it interesting that Eddie Hearn was willing to disclose the content of the email (when interviewed by Radio Rahim) he’d allegedly sent to Jermall Charlo to take the Demetrius Andrade fight, but decided to cover up the actual monetary amounts being offered?

I actually can’t find a video of Eddie Hearn verbally confirming the $7m offer. As far as I can tell, regardless the media speculation, we only have Demetrius Andrade's word confirming the alleged $7m amount.

If the figure being speculated by the media and Demetrius Andrade was correct, which means the offer was already public knowledge, then why on earth did Eddie Hearn refuse to show the actual number?

I don't know. I don't have all the answers, but there are knowledge gaps that no one is willing to discuss.

Perhaps someone can go one better than me and find a video or an interview transcript of Eddie Hearn verbally confirming the $7m offer, because I can't find any evidence to support this claim?

I'd love for someone to do all the legwork for a change, by performing research and providing proof, because everyone is convinced "something" happened, even though evidence is seemingly scarce.

I know I'd love to find out what actually happened either way. Perhaps Charlo is really "ducking" Andrade, I don't know, but I wouldn't mind there being some proof before jumping to that conclusion.

Yup, I don't think it will ever happen too. Charlo would probably fight another low calibre opponent next.
