Bleeders Hall of Fame
I award Charter Membership in the Bleeders Hall of Fame to the following fighters:
Sean O'Grady - you'd need galoshes to sit ringside at one of his bouts.
Alan Minter - Hagler chopped him up like ground meat.
Chuck Wepner - "The Bayonne Bleeder"
Henry Cooper - He could've KO'd Ali if he could just see through the blood.
Anybody have more nominees?

Ah yes...Abe Attell and Harlem Tommy Murphy. march 9, 1912, Daly City, California. Both covered with blood for the entire 20 rounds of their fight, which Murphy won, according to the referee. a bunch of ladies were tallking about this one at a bingo game the other night. Very well known fighters. Attell, of course, as everyone knows, was involved in the "Black Sox/ Cincinnati Reds baseball scandal.
graphic picture of this fight on page 326 of Sam Andre's and Nat Fleischer's PICTORIAL HISTORY OF BOXING. i saw it while reading over the shoulder of a ten year old hermaprodite who was sitting in front of me on the bus just the other day.

I think this thread is really about fighters who bled often and easily, as in the initial examples given.... noit guys like Hagler who got cut a couple of times.
Welterweight from the late 40s..early 50's ...Fitzie Pruden, got stopped a lot because the scar tissues over his eyes cut and bled so easily, but I doubt if anyone heards of him, except of course for myself and terap, and even I forget his name sometimes, so that leaves terap as the only reliable historian.

AH sweet old terap. Of course nobody here knows who Abe Attell and Harlem Tommy Murphy are. This is a boxing site with many long time boxing fans who have studied it's history. Now ask us who Martha Stewart is and you will get many educated responses.
Martha Stewart was the wife of comedian Joe E. Lewis, and is portrayed by Mitzi Gaynor in the story of lewis' life THE JOKER IS WILD, starring Frank Sinatra as the comedian. Based on book of same title by Art Cohn, who was killed in the same plane crash with Mike Todd. Film introduced the great Sinatra standard All the Way , lyric bySammy Cahn, whom I knew well, but not quite as well as i knew Joe. E.
Boxing connection. Joe added the E. to his name to keep his getting confused with Joe Louis in publicty write ups and such.
I understand there is another Martha Stewart in the news for something...stealing bed sheets from Kmart, if I'm not mistaken.

terap - You have a vivid imagination. You say Hagler was cut and being knocked around by Antuofermo in the last two rounds of their first fight? Put down the crack pipe, my friend. Hagler was unmarked at the end of that fight. He clearly won the last two rounds. Antuofermo looked like his head went through a revolving door, and the draw decision was the worst I saw until Whitaker-Chavez.
Since you brought up Vito, I might as well nominate him. I remember seeing him fight in early '81. He had just had a skin graft surgery - tissue from his butt was used to pad his eyebrows (no joke). In the first round, his opponent butted him and opened a gash that bled all night. So much for the surgery.
