Quality of posters/posts has gone downhill in 8-9 years.
Thought Colin McMillan would outbox everyone, everywhere
Thought Dennis Andries would amount to nothing
Thought Lennox would lose to Mason, Ruddock, Golota and Grant
Nelson-Whitaker
Eubank-Collins (both)

Mitchell v burns. Thought mitchell would box his ears off. Telt all my mates the odds were all wrong. Had a good bet, convinced them to.
They were lining up to chin me after ricky pummeled him in 4.

Dominick Guinn - I thought he was going to be the next great HW after Lewis & Tyson quit in the mid 2000s & Holyfield got living rigor-mortis.

I thought the same. He had a big win and then went cold.Syntax Error wrote: ↑09 Jul 2021, 06:40 Dominick Guinn - I thought he was going to be the next great HW after Lewis & Tyson quit in the mid 2000s & Holyfield got living rigor-mortis.![]()

Froch I thought was a cocky wank who would never make it past British title level. I was only partly wrong.
I thought Junior Jones would be an ATG
Jones Jnr to beat Tarver and Glen Johnson.
Juan Manuel Lopez to be an ATG
Alex Arthur to beat Gomez and then become a legit world Champ and never thought he’d lose so tamely to Nicky Cook

For me, Warrington. I thought he'd hugely overachieved by winning the European title. Did not realise there was a fair bit more to come!
Re: What fights/careers have you been so wrong about in boxing?
Two fighters who I thought would be on the P4P lists for years to come and possibly talked about in the ATG category.
Adrien Broner.
Keith Thurman.

Keith Thurman.

That is another good call re Warrington - although perhaps his two biggest wins might have still flattered him a little. Selby was dead at the weight and Frampton looked shot in his last fight at world class.dookus wrote: ↑09 Jul 2021, 07:54Wee Tommy wrote: ↑09 Jul 2021, 07:10Froch I thought was a cocky wank who would never make it past British title level. I cant remember exactly who one of the older posters from brum (maybe orb)..used to say thomas costello was a shoe in to win a world title

Not me mate.
Was it podmore? I know CP and I were high on McDermott for a while but I don’t think I ever said he would go beyond domestic.

Very true. Still, I never had him near that level!stujones wrote: ↑09 Jul 2021, 08:36That is another good call re Warrington - although perhaps his two biggest wins might have still flattered him a little. Selby was dead at the weight and Frampton looked shot in his last fight at world class.

Jameel "Big Time" McCline and Tyrone "Night" Nurse.

I still think Jorge Luis Gonzales will be THE heavyweight of the 1990s.

Yeah and I believed Kelly Maloney when he said...,
"Matt Ellis will be the world's first $Billion dollar athlete..!"
I didn't obvs - nobody did.

I was certain Margarito would bash Mosley,
Also thought Bellew was Commonwealth level MAX when he was getting decked by McKenzie and that bald southpaw. Forget his name.

It was an upset for me. Thought the bigger man with the supposed power would take the win, and then Josh made him quit, win the WBSS and become a 4 genuine belt champ.
Hindsight eh?
Re: What fights/careers have you been so wrong about in boxing?
Did think Martin Lindsey and Paul Appleby would enjoy world titles.
Thought Hatton would be too big for Pacquaio.
Thought Witter would beat Bradley.
Malignaggi would make Hatton potentially look silly.
John McDermott would beat Fury 2nd time.
