Mitchell wasn’t a bad fighter, but Tszyu really seemed to have his number. The loss to Phillips was fairly terrible, but generally he did well against what was a bit of shallow pool at the time. Certainly he would have been outclassed by De La Hoya if that match was ever made.
Mickey75 will tell you Tszyu was active.

No, I'd probably say people were saying he looked as good as ever in beating Sharmba Mitchell 7 months earlier. He went into that fight inactive.
Mods, why aren't these moved to other forums.

What garbage is this? Clearly Floyd Mayweather was a totally different class to anyone else at the time for me.

Tszyu looked slow, old and heavy-footed against disinterested contender Mitchell in 2004 the fight before - a guy he’d already measured down years before. He was rusty against Hatton and not quite shot but not far off - nowhere near one of the best fighters in the world at the time.

I remember seeing Tszyu in 1994 against top guys. He probably peaked around 96 v Bergman.

I was there - it was half empty. Touts lost a bomb.
I was at both. Neither half empty. Hatton-Kostya was rammed, whereas at Wembley the only seats free were part of a coach/ticket deal.
I was at both. MEN was full. Wembley wasn’t. You had a red band the entire way around the stadium of empty seats. I don't know what the capacity of Wembley is but I’m fairly sure it’s more than 80k

Half empty is wishful thinking. I’d say it was about 90% full.
90,000 capacity so no it wasn't full by a long stretch.

Only 80k went on sale. I'd say 70 odd thousand.

He was not a huge underdog. I fancied him to win the fight, many others did too and many fans gave him a good shot. I always said style wise Tyszu would suit him. It was a massive victory, a huge win, but he was not a massive underdog.

I've seen recent interviews and Hatton is still banging on about being a man of the people, the fans loved me because I'm from a council estate, just a normal bloke like them etc and that's why he had such a big following. We heard this tripe his whole career. The fans took to him because of his style. He was an all action fighter, he literally battered his opponents around the ring, and it was clear he was world class from early in his career. He had Sports Network and Sky behind him, and the fans lapped it up as he bowled over everyone in his path. That's what helped grow his fan base, nothing to do with council estates, pints of Guinness or fry ups.

Off the back of beating Mitchell, not just beating him but annihilating him, Tszyu was the number 1 at 140 at that time. Mayweather hadn’t kicked into gear and I don’t think he even had a belt. I’m pretty sure Gatti was WBC champ when Hatton won that fight.

I’m trying to think who would have been P4P number 1 at that time. It wasn’t Tszyu. It wasn’t Mayweather. Possibly Hopkins as he’d just beaten De La Hoya? PAC man had stopped Barrera but then had the controversial decision over Marquez so I don’t think he was number 1.

He’s getting to that age where because of his lifestyle he’s suffering with health problems both mental and physical.
He seems to be hanging onto something that isn’t there; currently it’s Campbell but that’s probably going to be a disaster.
He’s likely to regretful of the decisions he made between camps and how that affected his later performances.
He has one and two 1/2 real legacy wins (Tyszu - and the 1/2’s being Castillo/Malinaggi). Not an incredible CV at all.
He just has many regrets I suppose and him showing off his mansion to BBTV recently smacks of him still wanting to be in the limelight.
I worry about him in his 50s as he doesn’t seem happy at all.
Crazy as many of us would die for his current lifestyle.

I want to caveat this by saying Hatton is my favourite
UK fighter of all time.

I'm not sure where this Ricky Hatton pound for pound nonsense is coming from. I certainly have no recollection at all of it being a thing at the time. Pretty much the only time Hatton didn't look uncomfortable and trying too hard post-Tyszu, was beating the ghost of Castillo.

Genuinely don’t know why Hatton seems so unsettled. He had a cracking career and was well supported.

sUPPOSE THE MORE HE EMBELISHES IT THE MORE OF AN ENGLISH HERO HE WILL BE for future fans who never seen him ,,,Hatton was good no doubt about that ,,, but his win over Kosta , was a win but not a great win , Facts are Kosta had a bad shoulder injury which kept him out for a long time he was , coming towards the end , ,, He returned and put Mitchell away very quick , too quick he never got the rnds in ,,

Kosta being without doubt , the A side took the fight against Hatton in his backyard ,, always a risk , but heh , he's an adult and got well paid for it ,,, BUT and regardless what anyone says he still had that shoulder injury and only a couple of rnds in what 2'5 years or so ,,, He then had to put up with the absolutly terrible refferring ,,, the holding and wrestling that Hatton was allowed to do was really blatant and unbelievable ,, But heh Kosta quit , said stuff it give me my cheque i'm going home ,

But make no bones about it , Kosta was ready to finish and he sold his title to the highest bidder , his carreer was over he knew that , the injury to his shoulder was a bad one and his glory days were never coming back ,

Good win for Hatton , course it was , Great win , not on your nelly ,,, we seen what happenned when he went on to meet true champs in there prime

He’d fought there 15x too. In that arena.

I don’t think Tszyu really wanted to be there - the kings ransom got him there.

he was definitely mentioning 'p4p' both in reference to beating KT and later in the buildup to/ after Floyd ('only lost to p4p no1'.
