To be fair, shoutout2u, there are a lot of people who are very impressed with Khan. I'm one of them: Whilst I recognise that he has faults, I also think that, even at 19, he has world-class handspeed and accuracy.

The trouble is, he's being showcased as top of the bill, on prime-time T.V., and there are press releases that are portraying him in a negative light. It doesn't matter if these press releases are actually Khan's words, they're being released in his name. And they're turning a lot of people off.

It may not be fair, but the shadow of Audley Harrison looms large in these matters. Hopefully Amir can concentrate on fighting, because if he does that, he really can achieve something. He has that God-given talent, it's his to waste.

i've seen some support here at boxrec forum, but not recently & definitely not much in this thread...you are one of the only ones to come to amir's defense in this particular thread, which might better be called "let's rip amir khan a new butthole"...

i can see where the harrison shipwreck might handicap khan, but one failed olympian doesnt mean much when you consider all those olympians who did better then expected!!

is it khan's promoters who are releasing these negative press releases? if not, his promoter needs to deal with it...but if it IS his promoters then he definitely needs somebody new!!

i'm starting to wonder how much of the recent khan-bashing can be chalked up to good old-fashioned british cynicism!!

as a non-brit, i am amazed how many of amir's countrymen have turned on him so quickly, for a somewhat arrogant but very realistic assessment of what his chances would be in 2008 OG!! in my humble opinion as an outsider, is it really that FAR-FETCHED for a guy who won silver at 17 and avenged the loss to the veteran gold medalist before turning pro to be the betting favorite for 2008?!?

i feel bad for the guy...i daresay, if he was american, mexican or latin american...he wouldnt be getting pilloried like this by his OWN COUNTRYMEN for a somewhat boastful but in NO WAY unrealistic statement!

his arrogance pales in comparison to that of a young cassius clay/muhammad ali...who, to my understanding, historically has had & continues to have demigod status in the UK!!

we are all cynical about the way his career is going and will go. He can beat on super feathers by all means, but I don't have to watch it. I won't really tune in till he fights a good solid domestic fighter. Obviously it isn't time for that yet. Then he can shoot straight for the WBU World Championship and fight lots of limited imports who are desperate for the work.

Perhaps we see him as a kid who's getting the silver spoon. I certainly prefer to watch grittier fighters who are earning their stripes as a pro like Lee Meager, the lightweight.

No one in Britain knows much about boxing, with it off the terrestrial screens... And with no Lewis/Tyson/Holyfield even on Sky who had a definite trickle down effect (i.e. tie-in nights of boxing in England, with massive cards involving the likes of Benn, Collins, Winky, Naz, Calzaghe, Robin Reid keeping us awake for the big US show...) we're boxing peasants on average...So they cling to names like Muhammad bloody Ali

I think in America, Andre Ward isn't blowing the world away anyhow. But didn't he get knocked down?

ward is keeping a low profile and is basically a humble guy, so he is probably not drawing as much attention (good OR bad) here in usa as khan is in u.k. but then britain is a much smaller country, so i guess he is under more of a microscope than ward is!! plus many consider khan the future hope of british boxing & that is alot of burden to put on a 19-year-old kid's shoulders...ward is expected to win a title someday but is under no pressure to do it any time soon!! after the last usa OG gold medalist flamed out (david reid) it lowered expectations for future usa OG gold medalists!! reid was rushed into an early slaughter at the hands of trinidad when he clearly wasnt ready & so it seems nobody wants to see that repeated here!!

Thats true shoutout2U. I cannot say I have got fantastic grammer or spelling when I am just spouting of on here. I sometimes read back my old posts and think "that doesn't make any sense". However, I cannot say I really have the time to consider grammar and spelling alot when in quick type mode, perhaps I should. Its a different story though when doing work.

I do have to say though in recent times I have read "would of" or "could of" so many times on various boards that I had actually started if it was me being wrong for the last 20+ years. Even publicised (internet) pieces I have seen this error, so I am pleased E made the post, cause I honestly started to doubt if was really "could have"

people who post here are often doing so on their job (sometimes with one eye on the boss), so it can be a distraction to have to worry about misspellings, bad grammar, etc...

my only real peeve at sites like boxrec are weak posts that dont back their arguments with facts, results, logic or just plain common sense...after all this is a boxing forum & the essence should revolve around solid boxing takes & little else!!
