Cruiserweight Tournament - prime versions

Post by aicheligad »

I have excluded some fighters like Holyfield and Usyk to make it less predictable and decided to include fighters only from the XXI century era.

🇵🇱 Tomasz Adamek
vs - my prediction: Adamek UD 12 (116-112, 117-111, 115-113)
🇰🇿 Vasiliy Jirov

🇱🇻 Mairis Briedis
vs - my prediction: Briedis TKO 9 (78-74, 78-74, 77-75)
🇩🇪 Firat Arslan

🇵🇱 Krzysztof Włodarczyk
vs - my prediction: Włodarczyk KO 11 (92-98, 93-97, 93-97)
🇩🇪 Marco Huck

🇷🇺 Denis Lebedev
vs - my prediction: Lebedev KO 8 (69-63, 68-64, 68-64, Fragomeni down once)
🇮🇹 Giacobbe Fragomeni

🇫🇷 Jean Marc Mormeck
vs - my prediction: Mormeck UD 12 (116-110, 115-111, 116-110, both fighters down once)
🇵🇱 Krzysztof Głowacki

🇺🇸 Steve Cunningham
vs - my prediction: Cunningham MD 12 (113-113, 114-112, 115-111, Cunningham down twice)
🇷🇺 Murat Gassiev

🇷🇺 Grigoriy Drozd
vs - my prediction: Drozd UD 12 (116-112, 117-111, 117-111)
🇵🇦 Guillermo Jones

🇬🇧 David Haye
vs - my prediction: Haye KO 12 (102-106, 102-106, 103-105, Haye down once)
🇨🇺 Yoan Pablo Hernandez

quarter-finals:

🇵🇱 Tomasz Adamek
vs - my prediction: Adamek UD 12 (116-112, 115-113, 115-113)
🇱🇻 Mairis Briedis

🇵🇱 Krzysztof Włodarczyk
vs - my prediction: Lebedev UD 12 (118-110, 117-111, 117-111)
🇷🇺 Denis Lebedev

🇫🇷 Jean Marc Mormeck
vs - my prediction: Cunningham UD 12 (115-112, 116-111, 117-110, Cunningham down once)
🇺🇸 Steve Cunningham

🇷🇺 Grigoriy Drozd
vs - my prediction: Drozd UD 12 (114-113, 116-111, 116-111, Drozd down once)
🇬🇧 David Haye

semi-finals:

🇵🇱 Tomasz Adamek
vs - my prediction: Adamek SD 12 (115-112, 115-112, 113-114, Lebedev down once)
🇷🇺 Denis Lebedev

🇺🇸 Steve Cunningham
vs - my prediction: Drozd TKO 11 (94-95, 96-93, 96-93, Cunningham down once)
🇷🇺 Grigoriy Drozd

final:

🇵🇱 Tomasz Adamek
vs - my prediction: Drozd MD 12 (114-114, 116-112, 116-112)
🇷🇺 Grigoriy Drozd

Drozd's prime was his second coming, I know that his resume is quite thin, he is not very tested and it looked like he was on some juice (though we don't know if he really was on something illegal or not), but his prime performances looked very impressive to me, I think that he was capable of defeating anyone and I would love to see his best version vs Usyk, Olek would win imo but that's a mythical match-up I'd like to see :box:

Gassiev won't lose to Cunningham. Gassiev is much harder and more classy. Steve was quite vulnerable. He was very gutsy, but Gassiev still would be too much for him.

Adamek wasn't that good. Drozd probably too. Haye was better.

Briedis would win.

Yeah, I've tried to make them competitive and as much match-ups that never happened in real life as possible, wasn't that hard because it's boxing - the best rarely fight the best

@ aicheligad....fun tournament mate :TU:

I think Mormeck goes further myself.

Adamek v Jirov also one helluva of a first round match-up and it is Jirov for me.

If to predict the whole tourney...

1/8

Tomasz Adamek vs Vasiliy Jirov
It could go in both ways and would split, if they had several fights. Since Jirov's biggest performance was a clear loss to Toney, while Adamek's best performances were wins over Bell and Cunningham, I'd pick Adamek by dec.

Mairis Briedis vs Firat Arslan
Briedis would beat the hell out of Arslan. Briedis by KO in about 8 rounds.

Krzysztof Włodarczyk vs Marco Huck
It could go in both ways and would split, if they had several fights. Since Huck's best performances was in controversially losing to Povetkin, I gotta go with him. Huck by SD.

Denis Lebedev vs Giacobbe Fragomeni
A pretty easy night for Den. Lebedev by KO in about 10 rounds.

Jean Marc Mormeck vs Krzysztof Głowacki
Mormeck seemed to be a tougher and more composed boxer. Glowacki wouldn't find ways to Mormeck with his crippled southpaw style. Glowacki also was quite vulnerable. Mormeck by KO around the 8th.

Steve Cunningham vs Murat Gassiev
Yes, Steve was a road warrior and a truly gutsy mofo, but he was hurt on so many occasions, that it's tough to imagine a composed powerhouse like Gassiev not KTFOing Cunningham. Gassiev by KO, later on.

Grigoriy Drozd vs Guillermo Jones
Could be a war. Jones was a very tough fella, but Drazd was smarter and slicker. Drozd by dec.

David Haye vs Yoan Pablo Hernandez
Haye had a speed advantage, much more tools and enough power to stop Hernandez. Haye by KO inside 8.

1/4

Tomasz Adamek vs Mairis Briedis
Briedis is simply a better boxer, more skilled and powerful. Briedis by dec/KO.

Marco Huck vs Denis Lebedev
Well, we've seen this. Huck by SD.

Jean Marc Mormeck vs Murat Gassiev
Gassiev had enough tools to find holes in Mormeck's shell and enough power to KO him. Gassiev by KO, later on.

Grigoriy Drozd vs David Haye
A clash of the two smart and slick boxers. Haye had an edge with this qualities, he also was faster and more explosive. I see it as a tactical affair with a bigger amount of the Haye moments. Haye by dec.

1/2

Mairis Briedis vs Marco Huck
We've seen this. Briedis by dec.

Murat Gassiev vs David Haye
Gassiev could KO Haye easily, if he landed clean, but Haye could fight cautiously from the outside, thus he could outslick Gassiev. Haye would make it a tactical bout and outpoint Gassiev. Haye by dec.

Final

Mairis Briedis vs David Haye
Haye could have an edge in speed, but Briedis was no less skillful and smart. Briedis could deliver his power to chinny Haye, while Briedis himself was a more durable fighter. Briedis by dec/KO.
