Crawford vs Boots Ennis
Crawford vs Boots Ennis
Why not have a real welterweight fight? A young, talented boxer vs Crawford? Too risky? I would favor Crawford in a close fight, but think Ennis would give him a real test.

Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
since crawford, spence, manny, porter, garcia, ortiz, etc havent fought boots, they must be all ducking him
Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
Please. I would love this. Ennis probably loses but gives it hell and loses nothing by losing it. The kind of fights we just don’t see anymore…
Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
Another prospect worphip thread? Ennis looked good, but FFS against who?

Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
Boots is a very very interesting one to match. I like him vs Ortiz for a battle of the youngguns most..... otherwise Rashidi Ellis Or thurman Or David Avanesyan Or jamal James.. If he kicked the shit out of any of them it would be a very good look. (although i personaly wouldn't credit thurman much, i think he is shot to bits, but others would).
Think the likes of Spence, Porter, Danny garcia and Ugas have options that make more sense (fighting each other, or crawford).
Crawford is the wildcard pick. Although Crawford does have bigger options available. If he was willing to to negotiate logicaly... Bside 30% vs spence is more than 100% vs boots. 50-50ish splits vs porter, danny, Ugas and thurman would all probably pay more too... But crawford seems to not be able to get over the mental hurdle of being Bside, so mabey he would like to be the big dawg v the kid.

Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
top rank craw vs pbc's young super stud, 0 chance of it happening any time soon, that's 'why not'. its not realistic due to promoters and isnt a logical next step up in class for boots anyway.
if op is genuinely looking for a good fight for boots, instead of just setting up another match to complain about crawford not taking, he should be looking at the loads of pbc guys at 147, because that's where ennis's big fights are going to come from.
boots vs danny garcia....something like that i could see
boots vs ugas...could see it too
boots vs jamal james (though not sure how much of a step up that is from lipinets, but there would be a belt for them to sell it)
lots of good options for boots that are more logical steps up and are actually realistic

Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
Part of the reason I put this out there is because of the praise Spence had for Boots. He said he could possibly beat Porter due to his skills, being so sharp and skilled...if he can take a good shot. It would sell better than putting Crawford up against an above average light welter, like Arum is planning. I'd also like Virgil Ortiz vs Crawford as well. Either would be possibly better than anyone Crawford has fought in 3 years at 147, in my opinion.
If I was Arum, I'd offer step aside for Taylor's opponent and make it this fall to get Crawford to re-sign. That's a great fight too, but doesn't help Crawford's 147 resume a whole lot either, if he does negotiate with Spence.

Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
boots isnt going to be matched in a colossal step up vs a top rank guy, there is a huge pbc stable at 147 with opponents that can keep it in house in more gradual steps up. i doubt this fight could be made even if top rank wanted it to, al haymon is a smart dude and aint about to put one of his hottest young guns vs a rival promoters guy who probably beats him now but not in a couple years. literally no sense man
fights like boots-garcia, boots-ugas are way more realistic and much smarter steps up from ennis team anyway

He’d knock the socks off of either of these guys or Shawn Porter.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑12 Jul 2021, 09:53

Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
Jaron Ennis will probably sign with the PBC in the short-term. And despite Boots being a free-agent, he already has an established working relationship with the PBC and has recently headlined their shows.
Terence Crawford will probably extend his contract with Top Rank within the next three months and will then continue to “prove” himself as being the “top-dog at welterweight”, either by facing past-their-prime welterweights, anonymous unproven fringe contenders or Bob Arum’s big-name 140lb-ers making the jump to a higher weight-class.
And if what I’ve described comes to fruition, then we’ll never see Jaron Ennis fight Terence Crawford. It just won’t happen.

Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
It's not that TR hasn't treated Crawford well, they have, and have paid him well. It's been 3 yrs at welter though without a legacy type fight. If he re-signs, it will be on him, and a blow to his legacy. I love the guy and think he's the only one that could possibly beat Spence, but we may never know.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑12 Jul 2021, 19:02 Jaron Ennis will probably sign with the PBC in the short-term. Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
Agreed.
Agreed. But we’re only weeks away from
Crawford’s four year anniversary.
Agreed.
And Crawford is to blame for the predicament he's been in for the last few years, because everybody predicted what would happen almost a year prior to Bud putting pen to paper on Bob Arum's contract.
Crawford's plight will inevitably continue if he extends his contract with Top Rank again within the next few months.
You could be right, because Terence Crawford is really talented.
However, as the old adage goes: "Talent" is useless unless it’s proven…. And "potential" is useless unless it’s fulfilled!”
A fighter like Crawford can't do either if he isn't competing against the very best welterweights.

Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
Surely Crawford will leave Top Rank when his contract expires?
Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
He's hard to figure out. I thought that the last time too. Porter wanted to fight him, called him out, but I think Arum thought it may kill a possible Spence fight if he lost. Ugas vs Crawford makes the most sense right now. If Crawford wins it sets up an undisputed fight with the winner of Spence/Pac.

Yordenis Ugas is a PBC fighter, as is the vast majority of top-tier world-rated welterweights that Terence Crawford hasn’t fought.Bandog wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 09:01He's hard to figure out. Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
So was Felix Diaz. PBC has no problem putting certain fighters in with Crawford. Ugas isn't marketable and is a threat to any too fighter at PBC. Having him beat Crawford or Crawford beating Ugas is a win win for PBC. One threat removes the other.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 09:11Yordenis Ugas is a PBC fighter, as is the vast majority of top-tier world-rated welterweights that Terence Crawford hasn’t fought.Bandog wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 09:01He's hard to figure out. Re: Crawford vs Boots Ennis
The PBC are usually willing to allow their fighters to engage in cross network/promotional events if the fight is likely to generate mega-money (as per Wilder/Fury) or if the boxer is relatively anonymous/unheralded in the pro ranks.IKSRTFO wrote: ↑13 Jul 2021, 11:10So was Felix Diaz. I've always stated this.

Just trying to help Crawford salvage his career at 147. Virgil Ortiz? Thurman? Porter?
