That's a tough one. Both were pretty good. Pinklon was bigger than Ellis, but most heavyweights were. Ellis had a good chin, and did go the distance with Ron Lyle in Lyle's home town in a very hot arena. Jimmy was 34 at the time.

Pinklon was really pretty good until he ran into a prime Mike Tyson. Larry Holmes did not seem anxious to defend his title against Thomas.

I think, prime for prime, I would go with Ellis by decision.

Thomas was a bigger and stronger guy, who had a better jab, carried more power and wasn't against going toe-to-toe. I can easily see Thomas getting to Ellis and having him in trouble. Ellis could survive, but he wouldn't be able to suggest a lot against Thimas.

Thomas by dec or late stoppage.
