Has to be right up there, kind of serves the Germans right they seem to do a lot of this sort of matching. Old guy from the division below fighting their champs. I guess it happens everywhere but seems to happen a lot over there. Anyway I guess Sturm wasn't as good as thought.

About as much as it happens over hear to be honest. But yeah I agree, I saw this as a no brainer for Strum, not having reckoned on Javier being much of a puncher - though checking back on his record he obviously is. ( whatever happened to his interim WBC world title - sold at a boot sale? )

I hear the rematch is on...predictably. And I can see a more careful Felix boxing to a points win too ( he was booed by his fans in the fight before, for circling the ring and staying out of trouble late on ).

Not sure he ever fully recovered from that temple shot in the 2nd round. That sort of shot can have a lasting effect.

Still you have to credit the Germans for the upcoming Abraham/Miranda fight - they're taking on a live wire with that one.

But I'd still bank on AA coming through that test.

Think Vidoz vs Virchis is another contender for the Upset of the year. Just as it looked like Vidoz was going to have a decent reign up steps a guy completely outboxed by Sprott (one of the worst decisions of the last 12 months) and KO'd him.

Surprised the ref didn't waive it off after the KD....I'm sure anywhere else but Germany, Sturm is done right there.

Quite a turn up, at 38 and moving up a weight division, you would never expected this result.

He was getting his ass kicked up til then. Sturm didn't want to take shit again for not finishing and coasting the last two.

Sturm was up 6 on one card, and 4 on the other two going into 10.

Plus Sturm was supposed to have been robbed by the same DLH.

I wouldn't say it was "the same" De La Hoya for the reason that the one Castillejo fought was champ at light middle and the one Strum fought was out of shape, moving up to middleweight for what he expected to be an easy fight.

And he might've done. Taylor isn't that great. Castillejo happened to catch him.

Weirdly Castillejo lost to Del Bryan of all people in 1989. Not that Bryan wasn't a decent fighter but at the time who would think Juan would achieve what he has 17 years later..........

Good stoppage by the ref. Sturm looked gone. I've seen a few people say it was a little premature, but it looked spot-on to me (especially in slow-motion).
