Leigh Wood v Can Xu

Post by rhino222 »

So Eddie has delivered a world title tilt for Leigh Wood on the 31 July Matchroom fight camp event. Not much notice for Leigh for a world title assault, but i presume he has known about if for a few weeks now.

Is it just me thats cynical enough to think this is just Eddie trying to get control of the belt so that it finds its way back to Josh Warrington as his ticket sales/following bring Eddie lots of spondoolies?

Not a world title fight mate but an excellent opportunity for Wood

Well, its WBA regular title so Eddie is selling it as a world title and Leigh Wood will claim to be world champ if he wins.

Hearn etc still trying to pretend WBA regular is a World Title. Boxing News were right to start calling this nonsense out. Too many belts, 1 world champ per 4 org at most.

Agreed. I haven’t known an era where there have been less than 4 main organisations.

Hearn’s promoting a show so of course he’s going to say it’s world title fight. Technically he’s right but it’s a joke belt and I wish Matchroom and the other big promoters would refuse to promote fights for such titles.

Either way it’s a great opportunity for Wood against a seemingly good fighter.
