I think khan showed a good chin a few times. Was hurt against Peterson, getting pumelled around the ring and stayed on his feet. Showed Good whiskers against maidana.

His bigger problem was the shots he used to get hit with just shouldn't be getting through, there is something wrong with his in ring processing that just allowed his opponents to set him up and tee off with shots that would ko most boxers.

He’s taken plenty of solid punches and stayed up.

The only punches that he’s been down with was The Colombian which was early in his career, he bounced back well there. He then got hurt on the ear, the worse place to be hit that’s not your liver. Ask any other boxer who has been hit there. That the was Garcia fight.

And then the Canelo KO. That would have knocked out a HW.

His main issue is he allows himself to get hit clean a lot. A very exciting style but not when you can KOd for it.

Not saying Khan had a great chin… I just don’t think it was terrible. He got put down in silly ways against Gomez and Limond, ect, but he also took shots from some of the best heavy handed fighters in his division.
Glass jaw is being tucked away by domestic, fringe level fighters and never even getting to world title level (big Audley baby and Price, ect).
It let him down a lot but it also stood up at times, too.
At elite level I get the criticism of his chin but without an okay chin he never gets there.

The only time Khan showed punch resistance was whilst Alex Ariza was doing his strength & conditioning.

Before & after Ariza he was chunky. With him he took lots of shots against both Maidana & Peterson. Without him he was chinny.

I have my own theories on why this was the case.

He had a lot of heart, but a subpar chin for top level. How is Benn's chin?

Kahns chin is an interesting one, Its not iron by any means but he is not as chinny as is popular to belive. A big part of it is Kahn has a crazy style and will trade, nearly always gets caught while he is letting his hands go, this makes the KDs or KOs more dramatic.

-Prescott got him with a peach of a shot right on the chin, he got up but then wore anotherr, no doubt other fighters would take both, but iv also seen fighters that would not of got up from the first. Still this is his chins worst display over a long carrer.

-Showed good toughness vs Peterson, wore some big shots that iv seen put down plenty of people, made it 12 and mabey should have won.

-Vs danny garcia he took some bombs, got put down with a home run left hook while he was throwing his own uppercut and that made the KD very dramatic, but got up quick and went strait back to trading and taking more bombs. next round he got put down again after more big shots taken but he got up and looked ready although it got waved.

-vs Canelo fighting well above his weight Kahn managed to take shots pretty well through the first 6 rounds took a few clean left hooks. ultimently got hit with a monster right hand while throwing his own left and went down horrificaly, but, That shot would KO 95+% of welterweights i think.

-vs crawford got put down early to a good combo, but recovered and for the next 5 round had taken some shot pretty well. and ultimently got stopped via a low blow.... which is weird.

prescott hurt him with a jab too. prescott never stopped or dropped any other notable fighter. him wobelling a guy with a jab doesnt happen unless that guy is at least a bit chinny

there are also many kds and scares aside from those listed. sammy vargas put him on his butt (sammy wouldve dropped any hw in the world with that shot!) . julio diaz did the same and rocked him other times. as wee noted , limon almost stopped him

ive never been able to go along with the countervailing 'his chins actually decent/etc' argument.....i can understand what people mean when they say it's not as bad as some suggest it is, but for me no way is it even average. taken loads of knockdowns, been ko'd in less than a minute, been knocked out cold, been wobelled by a jab....he's done it all

as i said, the defense lapses and lack of iq that ppl mention a lot are so glaring precisely because him being rocked silly makes them more obvious

things khan also had the helped him out when hurt:

1. he had good powers of recovery
2. he was a very fast mover who could often bambi his way out of trouble long enough to recover

but in terms of getting hurt in the first place-- defo below average

Id have it bellow average, i'm by no means saying its great, just dont think its glass. He has repeatedly chosen to throw combos as his method of recovery, and as such has got clipped pretty bad while off balance, and that obviously leads to KDs.

Only got put down and unable to get up by Prescot and Canelo.
-Prescot one might be cause he is chinny, might just be unlucky, but on its own wouldent be cause for Kahn to be considered one of the chinnyest of all time.
-Canelo one, as i said earlier, would put down just about any welterweight.. that shot would put in some heavies.

From memory…..

After the Olympics he went in for the senior ABAs and got put over heavily by Craig Watson. I’m sure he went on to somehow win the fight (controversially) but was then removed by Warren who turned him pro before it happened again with a less forgiving ref.

When Limmond had him all over the shop the alarm bells were ringing .

Michael Gomez had him down too - not heavily but down all the same. Gomez was beyond finished by that time too.

Khan was a huge lightweight and only had a comeback against featherweight Fagan and a money fight against a washed up Barrera then he moved up. He deffo got hurt with that jab from Prescott, tho. Maybe it was making weight? Maybe if Barrerra didn’t get cut he would’ve got him out of there?
But at light welter I think his chin was better…. Not granite at all but not the softest.
He consistently got knocked out when he was throwing his own shots. Makes it look more dramatic.

It’s a weird one for sure. One fight he looks like he can take some hard shots… the next a prime Audley.

AK has def been one of my fav fighters in recent times, and the reason he has earned the big bucks is because he has put bums on seats across the world.
