I'd bet the under. I'd pick casmiero and bet that too. He's just a wild man that will give a lot of openings for that left.

Why to Watch: YEAH, I’ve got a Guillermo Rigondeaux fight at No. 2, WHAT ABOUT IT? Rigondeaux (20-1, 13 KO) is an amateur legend who will probably never quite get that same respect as a pro, as good as he’s been in his career. He’s 40 now, so if it was gonna happen it probably would have, but the slim chance rests on this fight. If at his age, he beats Casimero and wins a legit bantamweight title (Casimero’s WBO is on the line), he might get some more praise. Lots of people appreciate how good he is, but I still think in a weird way Rigo has been underrated, part of which is he absolutely can be deadly boring to watch fight.

Casimero (30-4, 21 KO) has sort of quietly had a great career, and now at 32 he looks to keep on impressing. He brings action, and will have to try to force Rigondeaux into a brawl, because he’s not going to out-box the Cuban. The bad news is Rigondeaux’s not bad in a brawl, either, and has a laser left hand that has frozen up a lot of opponents, which is the most under-appreciated part of why his fights often get really boring.

You also have to kinda laugh with Rigondeaux here. This was the original fight signed for this date, then some people “did some magic” and it became Casimero against Nonito Donaire. Rigondeaux shrugged, accepted some money to step aside, and figured he’d fight the winner, maybe. When the Donaire and Casimero camps had their big social media battle — which was frankly rather embarrassing for a bunch of adults in their 30s — and Donaire dropped out, Rigondeaux shrugged and stepped back in. It was a good fight when it was signed, it’s still a good fight.

Rigondeaux: Casimero is Dangerous - But My Great Boxing Skills Will Tame Him!

Two-division world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux is gearing up for a very dangerous clash, which takes place on August 14th at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Rigondeaux will challenge WBO bantamweight world champion John Riel Casimero in a Showtime televised main event.

The two-time Olympic gold medal winner has won three bouts in a row since suffering his sole career defeat at the hands of Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2017.

The fight with Lomachenko took place at the super featherweight limit of 130-pounds - which is well above Rigondeaux's natural fighting weight.

At 40-years-old, a loss to Casimero (30-4, 21 KOs) could be the end of the road for the Cuban boxer.

“It has been a very focused camp, and I have found inspiration watching the Olympics, and it has lit a spark in me. Winning two gold medals in my early years gives me added incentive to win this fight. I want to prove to the world that I am one of the best boxers ever, and that I have a lot left to give in this sport. I am confident that I am going to do that against the most avoided fighter in my weight class. Casimero is a dangerous fighter and a very powerful puncher, but I’m going to tame him with great boxing skills," Rigondeaux said.

“Training in Texas with Ronnie Shields has been great and our energy working together is fantastic. Ronnie has had a lot of world champions, and has a very professional boxing gym, with a lot of world champions and fighters who are competing at the highest level of the sport. I am motivated to work hard, not just to reach my own goals, but by all the young fighters in the gym who are driven and focused. The atmosphere has brought something new out of me. I’m revived and feeling young again.”

Here is what Rigondeaux had to say about training camp with Ronnie Shields and more:

On his upcoming matchup with John Riel Casimero:

“It has been a very focused camp, and I have found inspiration watching the Olympics, and it has lit a spark in me. Winning two gold medals in my early years gives me added incentive to win this fight. I want to prove to the world that I am one of the best boxers ever, and that I have a lot left to give in this sport. I am confident that I am going to do that against the most avoided fighter in my weight class. Casimero is a dangerous fighter and a very powerful puncher, but I’m going to tame him with great boxing skills.”

On his recent training camp with coach Ronnie Shields:

“Training in Texas with Ronnie Shields has been great and our energy working together is fantastic. Ronnie has had a lot of world champions, and has a very professional boxing gym, with a lot of world champions and fighters who are competing at the highest level of the sport. I am motivated to work hard, not just to reach my own goals, but by all the young fighters in the gym who are driven and focused. The atmosphere has brought something new out of me. I’m revived and feeling young again.”

On returning to the ring after a year-long layoff:

“I feel good. I think at this point in my career, all the time away from the ring helps. I know how to fight and I know how to train, the big thing is knowing how to recover, and not damage my body. I am doing a good job at staying sharp in the gym, but not over training. A win against Casimero will do wonders for my career.”

On fighting for the WBO world title:

“It always feels good fighting for a world title, and I have had the WBO title before after I beat Nonito Donaire, but this time I’m going up against a hungry young lion. I am looking to capture another world title, and give another great fight that fans will talk about for years.”

IMO, Rigondeaux is one of the best boxers in history. He is so good that few would venture into the ring with him. He is so good that he reduces legit pros to survival mode, resulting in boring fights for most fans.

His only pro loss was to Lomassiah at junior lightweight, 12 pounds over his natural weight class.
Guillermo has not had the highlight real pro career that Lomassiah has, but p4p I consider him the superior technician.

Let’s see what he has left.

May not be a popular opinion on here or anywhere, but I’ve always liked Rigo. Always rooted for it. Just the Loma fight I wasn’t really too bothered who won as long as it was a good fight..

I’m rooting for Rigo, his new style makes him a bit more vulnerable and his age ain’t helping.

After HBO/TR canned him, he had a very hard time finding fights, had to resort to fighting Jazza Dickens in UK. Lost most of his belts, PBC gave the lad a chance and he’s main eventing again.

Rigo can do it, but I expect a good and tough fight.

rigo been pretty shaky lately and been getting hit more, im siding with casimero, he's defo worth a bet as the underdog

116-112 would be the most comfortably rigo won a fight in a while. btw, the last guy rigo fought was almost 40 himself

Casimero-Rigondeaux: WBO Belt At Stake, WBA To Strip Rigondeaux Once He Enters Ring

Guillermo Rigondeaux will become a part of the movement to reduce the number of WBA titles, intentionally or otherwise.

The two-time Olympic Gold medalist and reigning lineal junior featherweight champion will enter the ring as the challenger for this weekend’s showdown with reigning WBO bantamweight titlist John Riel Casimero. Rigondeaux currently holds a secondary version of the WBA bantamweight title, which BS.com has learned will no longer remain in his possession once the bell sounds for his Showtime-televised main event from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The matter was directly communicated to Rigondeaux and his team by the WBA.

“We have learned through the media that you will fight John Riel Casimero on August 14 in Carson.,” Carlos Chavez, chairman of the WBA Championship Committee addressed to Rigondeaux in an official letter, a copy of which has been obtained by BS.com. "Due to restrictions on behalf of the WBO, the fight will not be for the WBA title."

Other sanctioning bodies discourage the practice of allowing its champions to enter title unification bout with secondary WBA titlists. Rigondeaux currently holds the WBA “World” bantamweight title, which he claimed in a win over Liborio Solis last February but has yet to defend, largely due to the pandemic. Naoya Inoue is the sanctioning body’s “Super” champion at the weight.

The WBO initially announced its hesitance to sanction the fight with Rigondeaux’s version of the title at stake, though it has since been confirmed that its belt is now the only one at stake.

Casimero (30-4, 21KOs) will attempt the second defense of the title he claimed in a third-round knockout of Zolani Tete in their November 2019 title consolidation clash at Birmingham Arena in Birmingham, England. The three-division titlist from Ormoc City, Philippines entered the fight as an interim titlist before upgrading following the knockout win.

In his previous outing, Casimero stopped unbeaten contender Duke Micah, also inside of three rounds last September at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Rigondeaux (20-1, 13KOs) has reigned as lineal junior featherweight champion dating back to his April 2013 win over Nonito Donaire. The Miami-based Cuban southpaw—who turns 41 in September—has since dropped down to bantamweight, in part due to an inability to secure a fight as big as the one that awaits him this weekend.

It’s a fight that has become worth the risk of losing his version of the bantamweight title before the first punch is thrown this Saturday evening.

Because the fight is not sanctioned by the WBA, Rigondeaux will be deemed in violation of rule C. 10 (10) covering non-sanctioned bouts as it relates to recognized WBA champions: “An Association Champion or officially recognized contender who participates in a fight without approval or sanction from the Championships Committee, may have his title or recognized status removed.”

As such, Rigondeaux will have to beat Casimero to leave the ring as a recognized bantamweight titlist.

“In light of the aforementioned (rule covering Non-Sanctioned Bouts), this committee has decided that at the moment you enter the ring, the WBA bantamweight title will be vacated,” declared Chavez.

The ruling comes to light at a time when the sanctioning body—through other, far more controversial means—has been forced to admit the error of its ways regarding its championship policy. Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, longtime president of the WBA is officially on record in declaring sweeping reform in eliminating numerous secondary titles beginning this fall.

The decision by Rigondeaux to proceed with a career redefining fight gives the sanctioning body a head start toward achieving that goal.

John Riel Casimero expects Guillermo Rigondeaux to last only three rounds in world title defense

JOHN RIEL CASIMERO

“This is a very good fight on August 14. Rigondeaux is a great fighter. But this fight is very important to me because I know my next opponent may be Nonito Donaire or Naoya Inoue. Those two opponents may be scared of me but Rigondeaux is not scared. But don’t worry Rigondeaux, this will be your last fight on August 14.

“I know how to manage my game plan against Rigondeaux but I’ll leave it as a surprise for him. Let’s see what happens Saturday. I’m not so much into the talking.

“I’ve stopped my last six opponents and Rigondeaux is next. He’s ‘finito’. If I finish Rigondeaux, then maybe Donaire or Inoue will be next.

“I’m confident I’m going to knock him out because of my training camp. I’ve been training so hard and my coach Nonoy Neri has prepared me for this moment.

“I respect Rigondeaux because he’s a good boxer and a two-time Olympian. But I want to show to the world that I can knock him out and a lot of my fans want to see me knock him out. So that’s what I’m going to do.

“I have a surprise for Rigondeaux on Saturday night. He will maybe last three rounds. Don’t run!”

in uk odds rigo opened slight fave, now casimero is a pretty comfortable fave, around 4/11, i guess ppl jumped on him at those earlier odds?

one hope for rigo backers, could be that casimero is a bit similar to donaire (heavy handed counter puncher, looks for single shots mainly), who rigo of course handled, albeit like 8 years ago
