Probably a bit early the stoppage but Takam didn't throw anything for a while and was being hit. Needed to cling on, or throw a shot back.

Bullshit stoppage
Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
That wasn’t too soon !
If you don’t wanna be stopped then you have to throw back, hold, bounce on your feet.., something
Can’t blame the ref - he had no choice.

Early stop, but takem wasnt throwing back at all so i see the reason, but i think it needs another 10 seconds or so, if he didnt throw back or dodge some shots in the next 10 seconds then stop it...

Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
pretty much at no point in the first 5 rounds vs takam not regularly bouncing haymakers off joyce's chin
i know it's joe joyce and 'hes so much more effective than he looks' , but coming up vs top level opposition i dont see him winning

Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
I will say, Not as bad as the stoppage when AJ beat takam. When aJ stopped takem takem was still swivvling at the hips, dodging shots well.
Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
Bad stoppage, much worse than the AJ/Takam stoppage. Joyce was starting to takeover as Takam tired and caught him well at the beginning of the round but Takam was still there.
The fight showed that Takam might still be able to beat a few up and comers, while Joyce is looking more and more easy to hit for the top guys.

Had he not stopped it when he did, what would Steve Gray have done had Takam's corner thrown in the towel??

Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
No issues with that stoppage really, Takam was hurt but has his wits about him but he wasnt throwing back and Joyce was landing a sh1tload of unanswered punches, shame really because it was a good fight, Takam couldnt miss with the overhand right, every time Joyce got hit with it, Takam landed a lot of big single shots but Joyce workmanlike as ever, kept plugging away, ramming the jab and letting both hands go, though Takam still looked lively you could tell just before stoppage that his work was slowing and Joyce was getting closer
Takam got wobbled by a left hook start of 6th and Joyce never let him off hook, you know he'd keep punching until the ref or bell came, you seen the ref hovering, poor stoppage probably but Takam not throwing back, cant complain too much but still a bit sh1t

Another British stoppage, 2 in one night.
You just don't see that elsewhere.
Takam was up on the cards

Davidson really thinks he knows more about boxing than anyone else as he rolls out another word salad waffle…. He fancies himself as Emmanuel Steward, cuz D’Amato and Angelo Dundee rolled into one, and with the vocabulary of Noam Chomsky and the psychology of Sigmund Freud. ya takam ahead for me, only way someone has joyce ahead is if they are scoring based on what they think will happen later - the whole joyce grinds you down inevtibility thing
takam was playing heavy bag with his face the first 5 rounds

I like Joyce as a person, seems a good guy but in truth he showed very little there to go any further.
A shot Chisora would likely give him serious trouble. That fight probably makes sense next.

Jeepers Joyce won't make it to a higher level than this if he doesn't get a sharper defence.
Great chin, until it isn't enough..
Maybe what Joyce showed tonight will help him in securing a fight with Whyte?
