Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
Good stoppage. Anyone that thinks that Takam was going to come back from that is deluded.
Another few seconds and Takam would have been badly hurt.

Talking about a WBO mando that realistically wont happen until 2023 at the earliest, are they really going to sit and wait for that without better tests? And surely Whyte is first in line.
Joyce wont trouble the big guys.

Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
he only has a 79 inch reach, not that long
ya ya, he's more effective than he looks, he'll make anyone work hard, but he also has a sh!tload of real flaws and could hardly block a punch tonight
and of course he's never proved that the 'he'll find a way' will actually carry up to anyone in the top 10. i just dont see him beating the top guys in the division, im sure he'll give most contenders a rough night at minimum though

Not the big guys but I think he beats Usyk.
Re: Round-by-Round: Joe Joyce vs. Carlos Takam - 24 July 2021
iam not shitting on him, when i talk about boxers in my mind i am compairing him to eilite or world champion cause thats what were talking about jj is Olympic boxer he is top boxergregregegg wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 18:46 Everyone likes to shit on joe. they think because his punches arnt snappy they dont do anything but by all acounts they hurt when they thud in.
Add in the fact the joyce is probably the strongest in the division, one of the best chins, one of the best cardio, and a great height and reach... nightmare for anyone (except usyk and fury).
always going to struggle early when his slowness is most exposed, trash defence too, but if he can weather through it and just keep podding fowards noone is having an easy night.

usyk has an a-level gas tank himself and will be tough for joe to catch up with enough with to grind down, i think usyk outpoints him

True regarding his stamina, he'll get to most opponents at some point providing he doesn't get caught early.gregregegg wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 18:46 Everyone likes to shit on joe. they think because his punches arnt snappy they dont do anything but by all acounts they hurt when they thud in.

In an ideal world he’d fight Chi’sora or Usyk next.

As a big boxing fan I’m hardly gonna not watch the fights because of the commentary. And switching off sound is an atmosphere killer. But it’s still acceptable to have an opinion on the commentary. Serious boxing fans always have an opinion on the commentary. And Davison is a drain to listen to…. and Smith is execrable. It’s perfectly reasonable for serious boxing fans to be passionate about every aspect of their sport.Shambles wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 18:42Personally I just watch the boxing, I'm not massively bothered about some person trying to do some commentary. Same as Growling Smith, ignore him.
Sometimes awful commentary can add to an experience strangely. I actually enjoy and miss Ron McIntosh’s odd choice of words…. And Smith making me cringe with his Bomber remarks etc is in a weird way part of the awful Sky Sports boxing experience.
Anyway we won’t have to listen to Smith much anymore, unless any of us are big women’s netball fans thankfully….

ya i think chisora would be a good fight for him........takam is a good opponent to have fought before facing chis too. different styles, but identical dimensions and very similar with the looping shots

I think Usyk struggles with Joe’s strength. He was uncomfortable in last couple of rounds in WSB and Chisora’s strength troubled Aleksandr.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 18:50 usyk has an a-level gas tank himself and will be tough for joe to catch up with enough with to grind down, i think usyk outpoints him

i put mute on most of the time tbh
the sound usually isnt good enough to hear full volume on the shots landing, grunts in the ring, etc.....especially with comms talking.
ive seen some streams where there is full ring sounds but no commentary - absolutely f@cking love that

I think Usyk just peices him up for 12, fury too. But i think he has a decent chance vs anyone else if he gets his stratergy right. Does need to be willing to clinch a bit more, big joe getting hands on you and leaning is a nightmare for the energy levles. AJ didnt love it in there with takem either, sure he took less big rights, but he also dosent have a chin to take the shots either.
Its obviously completely unknown how far joyce can go, but if he can add just a bit of smart clinching i think he is even money with everyone but usyk, fury and AJ.
love to see him in with Yoka, Hrgovic, Ortiz or parker next.

i thought he looked perfectly composed in the wsb fight, and he obviously won all 5 rounds - tbh not the fight i'd expect someone to use as evidence for joyce winning!JamesPhilips wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 18:56I think Usyk struggles with Joe’s strength. chisora for me hardly touched usyk after the first 2 rounds. he also has more of a frantic come forward style of stalking, whereas joyce is more measured and methodical (and slower) and i think that plays into usyk's hands. usyk also has very good stamina himself - it's one of his main strengths
a stronger guy still needs to be landing and imposing himself to sap the smaller guy, and usyk has plenty of gas tank in there

ya usyk for me is just wrong for choice
good stamina + much quicker + possibly the best movement in the division = a very good recipe to move around joe , pepper his porous defense, and have enough left to make it to the end for a points win

Good point with regards to Big Ron, I don't mind him at all. Seems like a decent person, boxing fan, just some bizarre and occasionally hilarious expressions. He's good and works well with Richie Woodall.
That Smith bomber comment was odd and so uncomfortable.
I get what your saying about serious boxing fans having an opinion on commentary. I guess I'm less serious than I used to be. There is so much nonsense within boxing that I'm beginning to tire of it. I can't happily watch an evening of fights any more, I have to pick and choose and even then it can be a drag.
I hope I snap out of it.

why do you think it was worse? just interested.joshj909 wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 18:30 Bad stoppage, much worse than the AJ/Takam stoppage. Joyce was starting to takeover as Takam tired and caught him well at the beginning of the round but Takam was still there.
The fight showed that Takam might still be able to beat a few up and comers, while Joyce is looking more and more easy to hit for the top guys.
AJ vs takem stopage, AJ landed a 1-2 then takem avoided the rest brilliantly, pulled back out of ranged of a big right, slipped a left and ducked under the next big right, then the ref stopped it.
Joyce vs takem stopage, joyce threw 15 + unanswered shots, about 12 landed, takem was just leaning fowards on unsteady legs, finaly got rocked back and it was stopped.
Takem was still protecting himself vs AJ was not vs joyce.
