Michael Wallisch is a disgraceful opponent!

Gassiev engages in only one bout in three years, which was a first round KO mismatch against a cruiserweight. And now he's engaging in yet another horrendously dire mismatch!

Murat Gassiev is an experienced pro. He's not a sub ten-fight novice prospect learning the ropes.

It's a complete disgrace that this fight is even being sanctioned!

If Murat Gassiev stops Michael Wallisch in less than three rounds, then what will it prove?

It'll prove he's ready for another giant leap forward - Herve Hubeaux in about eighteen months time. :brick:

Hryunov already talked about a possibility of Gassiev fighting Christian Hammer next. Gassiev made a huge mistake, that he had teamed up with Hryunov, while everybody figured out long ago, that Hryunov sucked. Gassiev will never enter the top level under such promotion.

Provided the fight follows quickly after the Wallisch "fight" I would be very satisfied if Gassiev's next opponent were Christian Hammer.

Gassiev is no spring-chicken. He needs meaningful step-ups and he can't afford to do it at a leisurely pace.

well tbh at 27 he's still one of the younger guys out there.....using the boxrec ratings for example, only 1 guy in the top 25 is more than a year younger than him (dubs).

but ya, at the rate he's been moving, he'll have a meaningful hw fight at 35

I thought he was over thirty. That changes things a bit for the better then.

well gass kos wallish in the 4th

first 2 gass basically follows wallish around the ring, doing pretty much nothing at all while wallish jabs . wall wins the first 2. in the 3rd gass actually starts to throw with some intent and imo won it, then dropped wallish with a right in the 4th. followed up and ref stopped it, albiet prematurely .

as i said in another thread, gass should be fine up till the top 20 range of so. he has good timing and faster hands than most hw, not to mention some wicked body punching. but bigger guys who stay outside and dont let him set to punch will be a problem

i'll just copy and past my post from the other section:

i dont see it quite as badly, imo it was pretty clear that he was just taking it easy and having a look the first few rounds, rather than not being able to deal with what wallish was doing. its not an uncommon thing vs overmatched opposition that a guy can afford to do it against. he was doing patty cake stuff and clearly pulling his shots in the first 2. i thought he started to throw with intent in the 3rd and won that, then ko'd him in the 4th. when he did let his shots go they were still quick and crisp.

he'll be fine up to the top 20 range or so. he has good timing and is fast and compact with his shots. very good to the body too, and id suspect a big puncher at cruiser should still have respectable power at hw. kinda reminds me of a lower grade version of canelo.

he will defo have problems with better tall guys who can give him movement though, it's always been his thing that he struggles more when he cant set to punch. aside from usyk, lebedev gave him a really close fight doing that approach too

Gassiev dealt with the mismatched opponent like he should have. This proves nothing though. Hopefully he fights at least a gatekeeper level next, not another journeyman.

How would he fare against Chisora do you think? I'm asking Maggie who's seen the fight, but I'm interested in everyone's opinion so don't be shy. I think it would be an excellent match.

Gassiev will win Chisora, probably even stop him. Chisora always tries to mix it up, while he remains opened. Gassiev is a composed boxer with a huge power in both hands and on both levels, so he will bring a punishing counteraction to Chisora's primitive aggression.

good question, would like to see gass vs more of a live body first at hw. id think the compact, sharp punching and good timing are still likely to be there. more of a question of what impact does his power have at hw and how does he take it from bigger guys.

i'd expect by the time they'd ever get around to fighting that gassiev would beat him though. another thing is that by far gass's biggest problems come when guys move and dont let him set to punch, chisora isnt that type of fighter, though it's possible he could outwork gass, who waits a bit too much to pick his shots at times

Good summary. I'd like to see it now though before Gassiev gets comfortable at the weight. I think right now it would be especially competitive.
