Tokyo olympics
Re: Tokyo olympics
Where did they see a SD in a big cheeks bout of 75 kg between the ROC and the USA women? The ROC big cheek totally dominated the bout, the US one was mostly trying to hold on.
Re: Tokyo olympics
At 57kg 1/8 a cut from the previous fight caused a 2 round loss to the Iranian fighter agaist the Cuban one. Although the Cuban competitor looked better from the start.
Re: Tokyo olympics
A good fight between the Thai and the Argentine guys. A SD win for the Thai and it really was close. The Argentine provided a great effort. The Cuban will likely handle the Thai next.
Re: Tokyo olympics
These little guys of 57kg continue to rock, the Mongolian won the Vietnamese by UD, but it was competetive in the first two rounds and action-packed.
Re: Tokyo olympics
The ROC comfortably outboxed the Dominican to a UD.
The 1/8 of 57kg are completed now.
It's a shame that a one branch features The ROC, Mongolian and Cuban fighters. I see them as favorites, but only a one of these three will be in final against someone from a weaker branch, likely the US guy.

Re: Tokyo olympics
What a fun brawl at 81kg between the Croatian and the Mexican. A SD for the Mex. Actually, after 1/16 I was sure, that the brawler Cro would lose 1/8, but eventually it seemed to me, that the Cro outfought the Mex.

Boxing masterclass by Arlen Lopez, he schooled that algerian ![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)
Re: Tokyo olympics
Nice KO of the Ghanaian fighter by the Turkish one. The Ghanaian was an aggressor, but the Turk had a gap in class, scored good counters and eventually caught the Ghanaian.

Re: Tokyo olympics
Just watched this dude from Iran. Daniel Shakabash (sp) - just lost to Cuban guy on an unfortunate cut….
He was troubling the Cuban, I thought winning second round but commentary VERY biased…. His speed, timing, footwork, hands down, confidence makes you think of Naseem Hamed at his best. He’s only 20 or 21.
This is a guy to watch in the future. Selfishly I hope he goes pro as his style is really entertaining and not that if an amateur. Anyone else watch him?

Re: Tokyo olympics
The Azerbaijani (Cuban immigrant) comfortably outboxed the Uzbek, although somehow by a SD.
The Cubans will win their 1/4s and meet each other in the 1/2 of 81kg.

Re: Tokyo olympics
He won the 1/16 confidently, but suffered a cut there. The Cuban looked better for me in the 1/8, until the cut reopened, but the Iranian definitely has some talents.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 07:42 Just watched this dude from Iran. Spain I get, but why Azerbaijan? Not much of a historical linkDrDuke wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 10:21Yeah, both Spanish and Azer teams have Cuban immigrants.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 09:46Azerbaijan have a Cuban dude? Re: Tokyo olympics
The guy himself said, that he decided to move from Cuba because of competition there and because of purses. Probably the Azer team offered him more than others.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 11:33Spain I get, but why Azerbaijan? Re: Tokyo olympics
Makes sense. How long til every country without a decent boxing team fills it with Cuban ex pats? There will soon be 60 Cubans in the Olympics lolDrDuke wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 11:52The guy himself said, that he decided to move from Cuba because of competition there and because of purses. Re: Tokyo olympics
Spain also has a Degestani fighter, who next faces Khataev at 81kg. Seems like they have no own boxers. Germany had some sort of a Caucasian, who lost in 1/16 of 57kg to the Argentine. There are some cases, when boxers have to change country. Remember Lennox Lewis. However, yes, this time Cuba seems to be the most "multicultural".JamesPhilips wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 14:20Makes sense. Re: Tokyo olympics
I can imagine winning cuban nationals can be maybe harder than winning Olympics
Re: Tokyo olympics
Interesting to see pretty much everyone concurring on what’s a good decision and a bad one.
Thought Uzbek 57 beat Kurt Walker.
Like watching Duke Ragan.
Report back after the light heavies, but Olympic boxing is becoming like premiership football with some of these nationals

Re: Tokyo olympics
The Ukranian Tank Khyzhniak opened the 75kg 1/8 session with overwhelming the Japanese guy in his trademark fashion. I like the Tank's style, he's an absolutely relentless wrecking machine. Khyzhniak will win Gold.
Re: Tokyo olympics
The favorite of the HW, Jalolov of Uzbekistan opened the division's session with comfortably outboxing the Azerbaijani.

the azer is one of the better guys, that's a good start to the games for jolly rancher
Re: Tokyo olympics
The Indian easily outboxed the Jamaican, but somehow by SD. The Jamaican hit the Idian with a head while rushing inside on so many occasions. The Indian was cut, but luckily the cut wasn't severe.
