Not that threatening in the ring though. He's more of a fighter, not an inventive boxer. Can't see him winning the Kazakh, whose game is more polished and profound.

the kazakh was fighting as a cruiser as a pro, looked really good in those fights, including a rare stoppage of serg radchenko. he's small but got skills and power, would love to see him move fast as a pro after this

She had a good win today but has a fought draw. She’s in the same half as the Irish girl who beat her fairly comfortably in the final of the Europeans.

Whittaker’s next up. I don’t fancy his chances of keeping Khataev off him for 3 rounds.

Good day for the Brits with 3 wins from 3 in tough fights. Medals guaranteed with Whittaker and Pat McCormack through to the semis and Caroline Dubois through to the quarters.

Pat’s won his his last 3 against Aiden Walsh although I don’t rate Whittaker’s chances too much against Khataev.

Dubois has a tough draw. Fighting a really good Thai lady in the quarters (she won silver in the 2018 worlds) and then potentially Harrington in the semis.

Yeah, Khataev will deliver pain to Whittaker as well.

I struggle to root against the Brits in the Olympics but I agree his style isn’t particularly entertaining.

Hopefully they can patch Pat up. Would be a real shame for him to miss out on a chance of the bigger medals.

Boxing masterclass by Pat McCormack. Hopefully he will slaughter that irish runner in semis.

Promoters should draft Khataev to pro asap. That guy is a beast. On the other hand, Rakhim Chakhkiev was amateur beast too and professional boxing exposed his glass chin. Hopefully that is not Khataev case. How old is he ?

he is 26, 27 at the end of August

a lot of the real standouts these games are around the same age...seems like an older olympic batch

mccormacks, jalolov, khatiev, khyniak, nyika.......all 26 or older by end of august

Yeah, he should go pro for sure. He needs to run from Russia, not to engage with Russian based teams, especially with the Chechen Akhmat, if he wants a good buildup, without a long bum diet.

About the same stuff can be said about Khyzhniak. He's definitely a fighter with a great pro potential, but hardly he'll achieve it in Ukraine.

What an awkward fight between the Azerocuban and the Turk.

The Cuban 1/2 next.

A great fight between the Levit-killer and La Cruz. A SD for La Cruz. Experience and class over size and power.

Enjoyable match at Lt Heavy between Cuba's Arlen Lopez vs Torres Romero from Mexico. The Cuban was shorter but quick and accurate and the Mexican tall and slick with nice footwork. Both southpaws would make good pros.

SD in the fight of Yafai vs the Zambian. They are insane. Yafai was always coming forward, scoring, being composed and good at defence. Zambian's head was pushed back from Yafai's punches in every round.

For me the British cheek deserved more to go to the final than the Japanese one. A bit of a hometown luck. A decent bout though.
