Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
This was my card on the bout.
Tim Witherspoon v Carl 'The Truth' Williams
Round 1: 10-9 Williams
Round 2: 10-9 Witherspoon
Round 3: 10-10 Even
Round 4: 10-9 Witherspoon
Round 5: 10-9 Williams
Round 6" 10-9 Williams
Round 7: 10-9 Williams
Round 8: 10-9 Williams
Round 9: 10-9 Williams
Round 10: 10-10 Even
Round 11: 10-9 Witherspoon
Round 12: 10-9 Williams
Total: 117-113 Williams
Actual scores were 116-112 for Williams and two scores of 115-113 for Witherspoon, which I simply cannot make a case for even if I was bending over backwards for Tim. Williams should have felt bummed on this one because he was robbed IMO.

Ray Mercer vs Tim Witherspoon
Mercer beats Witherspoon by UD over 10 rounds, looked like Witherspoon was unlucky not to get it, it was close but he did throw more and land more, he hurt Mercer in the middle rounds, think it was in the 5th a right hand had Mercer holding on, it was a good fight though, both men stood in middle and traded jabs, Mercer had success with uppercuts, Witherspoon with clubbing shots, looked like he done enough to edge it but Mercer got it

Andrew Golota vs Tim Witherspoon
Golota beats Witherspoon by UD over 10 rounds, comfortable win for Golota, he just boxed and moved, never stayed still, popped out the jab, put his punches together, never really put any meat on to his shots but was happy to outbox Witherspoon who just plodded forward trying to land that big overhand right and missing wildly, Witherspoon did have a little success with his own jab but too often didn't let his hands go and was picked off by Golota quite easily

Brian Nielsen vs Tim Witherspoon
Nielsen stops Witherspoon in 4 rounds of a non title fight, tough night for Witherspoon, got battered from pillar to post from the opening bell and was down in every round, a right hand to the body had him down in the 1st then a right hand upstairs had him down in the 2nd, he just got pummeled to head and body from Nielsen and was battered to the canvas in the 3rd, should've been stopped there but he took more of a beating before the fourth and final KD in the 4th stopped the slaughter, again Witherspoon being overwhelmed by lefts and rights before being forced down for the finish, a demolition job by Nielsen

Shame that this fight was when Tim was older and essentially the B-Side guy.Andrew Golota vs Tim Witherspoon
I could see Spoon turning Golota inside out 6-7 years earlier.

Monte Barrett vs Tim Witherspoon
Barrett beats Witherspoon by SD over 10 rounds, Barrett wasn't special and it was a poor spectacle but should've been unanamous, Witherspoon ancient but still tough and crafty as hell, kept plodding forward and done a good job of nullifying a lot of Barrett's work but he never landed much effective himself
Barrett the better mover, put his shots together better at times, moved better but too often it was messy up close, both guilty of tying up too often and there was a lot of holding, it was just that when there was clean punching it came from Barrett

His balance was so bad that he was stumbling around like a newborn giraffe from the opening bell.
He was arguably half the fighter he was 15 years earlier.
Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Some of these late in the day Spoon fights feel hard to read Hands
Tim really should have been poolside and talking options with his fund manager.
But he was a brave guy and in brief glimpses he still showed a few hometown favourites/promotional projects what they would have been facing a decade earlier and that it would have been too much for them to handle.

Nielsen vrs Witherspoon ,it kind of looked like some sort of re-enactment of the Marciano-Moore fight to me.

Still can't believe Klompton thought Witherspoon took a dive against Nielsen
Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Yes, he clearly underestimates the force of nature that was Brian Nielsen.handsofstone wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021, 03:16 Still can't believe Klompton thought Witherspoon took a dive against Nielsen![]()

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Nielsen stopped 40 odd year old Witherspoon in 4 rounds, had him down in every round, why in god's name would Witherspoon get up 3 times previous?? Surely there's easier ways to take a dive, Witherspoon got battered from start to finish
Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Yeah, a shell of Witherspoon. Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
I will say Witherspoon was pretty durable even in his later years, he was like a good journeyman, hard to hit clean and very crafty but against Nielsen he was getting hit clean and often, down 4 times and hurt several times as well, the fact that anyone thinks its a dive is insanity, I can understand maybe if they said he quit but a dive? Nah he just beat up and stopped, he actually took some big shots to back of the head at the finish, he was bludgeoned to the canvasoogiebe wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021, 14:03Yeah, a shell of Witherspoon. Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
LOL A Dane believing Nielson was something other than the complete fraud he actually was... Color me shocked
I still recall all of the hype around Nielson beating Marciano's record against none other than Dicky Ryan who made padded records everywhere snicker. I seem to recall Nielson fainting mid ring and trying to roll out of the ring to vomit when he came down with a virus and the entirety of the Danish audience literally trying to roll his fat ass back into the ring to continue the fight despite the fact that he would have been disqualified anywhere else. Boxing in Denmark in the 1990s was faker than professional wrestling. They knew nothing of legitimate fights. Fixes were the name of the game under Mogens Palle, always were. Anyone who says otherwise doesnt know shit about boxing, which describes a large swath of Danish boxing fans.

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Are people on crack in the Boxing History forum? Klompton just waffled a load of nonsense about how bad Nielsen was as a fighter,, rightly or wrongly, totally irrelevant about the actual fight with Witherspoon
Again as I mentioned above, why would Witherspoon go down 4 times when he took a "dive"
