It was set up privately but it was adopted as an official record keeper. This have it both the legitimacy to get lots of users and therefor make good money through advertising, but it also gave it the responsibility to keep records as close to perfect as possible.

I like boxrec, but they have done some weird shit picking and choosing commissions ect in the past. And that’s just what I have been made aware of, with the nature of boxrec dominance it’s incredibly hard to check someone’s record with an alternate sorce.

Why refuse to list fighters that been knocked unconscious so they can’t fight somewhere else a few days later a d get damaged permanently?
Why bill yourself as the “official record keeper” and be anything but ?

No data website is without some flaw or controversy or inaccuracy. Largely because human beings are not infallible. There should always be allowances for some margin of error, or the expectation that something is wrong somewhere in the system.

As far as record keeping is concerned, I have little to complain about when it comes to the site although once upon a time the members of the forum were quite committed in assisting the site in finding the records of participants past or present.

If I were to critique anything it would be the forum itself but the world is full of assholes, so it's expected for there to be trolls and jerkoffs wherever you go. Especially online where people can be anonymous and safely behind computer screens rather than have genuine confrontations. Reality tends to filter people more often than not.

I do think that BoxRec should take constructive criticism, as should anything or anyone else because that is healthy. But I tend to think that much of what is said about anything or anyone is criticism rather than critique and should be taken with a tablespoon of salt.

P.S.

While I disagree with the logic, from time to time, because I believe a fight is a fight regardless of where it is staged, unless it is a declared exhibition rather than a contest--- there is the train of thought among some who hold all the cash and all the power in the business that a fight is only a fight unless it is staged under "proper" locations set up by "reputable" promoters.

I disagree with that mightily, but unfortunately that's the way it goes. As I was told Once upon a Time on this forum, "not every fight is a fight." That's why I always liked CyberBoxingZone, even though they only covered the records of past champions--- because they included every sparring session of note and exhibitions match along with every contest. They even included street fight altercations.

From my point of view if you have two professional boxers inside a ring, and they are getting paid, etc--- it's a damn contest regardless if they are fighting "outside jurisdiction" or not. That's why I will continue to say that American boxing is effectively dying because it's all geared towards Big Time promoters, and whoever they have under contract, and nobody else.

It does make me want to make a thread, "Who Is The Best Woman Reporter in Boxing?," because I'm seeing a rather large influx of women coming into the business--- but so very little of them seem to know anything about it, or make gaffs regularly like that woman did.
