Buster Douglas v Mike Tyson 2

Post by Evander »

Say an immediate rematch took place 3-6 months after the original.
Who wins ?
I think Tyson knocks him out inside 5.

If Douglas was ready like in the actual Tyson fight, then repeat. If like against Holyfield, then revenge.

If Douglas fought his best against Tyson, but Tyson had Kevin Rooney in his corner without problems, then the Rooney trained Tyson would knock the best version of Douglas between 3 through 5. However, if Douglas fought overweight like in the Holyfield fight, then Tyson may blast him out in 1 without giving Douglas any chance to repeat his performance like in Tokyo, Japan.

This reminds me of a news article not long after Mike Tyson did his exhibition with Roy Jones and Buster Douglas said he would make a comeback to fight Mike Tyson again in the next exhibition if Iron Mike wanted it.

Bingo.

If Douglas comes in in top shape again, he beats Mike again. If he lives the high life, gets fat, and comes in 20 pounds heavier like he did against Holyfield, yes he probably loses.

The Douglas that beat Tyson in 1990 didn't beat him because Tyson just wasn't prepared. He beat him because he always could've. He had the style to give Mike problems, and he would over and over again if he was in that form.

And he wasn't intimidated.

Despite being inconsistent and having a shorter period of prime, Douglas was clearly better in his prime than Tyson. He was just seen in their fight. Douglas was a more well-rounded boxer.

He didn't have a better career, but the Buster that fought Mike in Tokyo could've always beaten him head to head.

Buster had Mike's number. Some fighters just match up better against certain boxers.
