Bloody amazing achievement given what the big guy had been doing to his previous opponents.DrDuke wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 00:24Whittaker is classy for sure. To keep the Chechen puncher away all time was a solid achievement.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 00:10 pat and ben whittaker on to the finals
i find ben hard to watch though, very classic slap and run amateur style
Re: Pat McCormack Olympics
I wasn't sure, so I watched it back-
1:21 of R2 the ref definitely says :
"This is your last warning about the head"
I like Fraser the Eraser, but he didn't win that fight. And yes the dirty frenchie was coming in with his head something chronic.

Ah well.

it's weird to give a dq immediately after taking the first point though........like, usually it's multiple deductions before a dq.....or at least let them box after taking the first point
tbh, i didnt think the french guy was THAT bad with the head. not dq worthy at least. dont agree with the dq, but i guess it happens and fraz now guaranteed a medal

Re: Pat McCormack Olympics
pat and ben both have cubans in the finals.........i'll say pat wins but ben loses. pat is better of the two and his cuban is a bit longer in the tooth than ben's is. ben also had very close calls in his last 2 fights.
frazer with a cut in tough vs jalolov in the shw semis. fraz beat him several years ago, but jalolov has been undefeated the last 4 years and is clearly the king of the division atm.
on the other side of the shw bracket is torrez of usa vs the khaz guy, who looked very good in 3 pro fights at cruiser. the khaz guy is the only fighter to beat jalolov since the 2016 olympics (but jalo beat him several times since that) and was the silver medalist at the 2019 worlds...losing to jalolov. torres is best known for being brutally KTFO by jalolov, but he's actually not bad at all and has won several international tournaments

I agree, that McCormack has more chances to win the Gold than Whittaker, although I find quite close both these finals and no outcome should be surprising there.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021, 00:53 pat and ben both have cubans in the finals.........i'll say pat wins but ben loses. pat is better of the two and his cuban is a bit longer in the tooth than ben's is

Clarke definitely won't handle Jalolov. The Jolly Banger is a completely different fighter now, no one is the same good at the SHW today.
Torrez is good, but Kunkabayev is better. The Kazakh will advance to the final against Jalolov to lost there.
Re: Pat McCormack Olympics
Whittaker's 1/2 rival Imam Khataev said in the post-fight interview, that he was done with the amateurs and would go pro.

Wow ! just watched the Jalolov / Torrez fight, that was a scary knockout, though it looked like a middleweight v a heavy somehow, and comments saying Jalolov was a former pro….I still don’t understand how pros are allowed to switch back to Am, makes no sense to me and ridiculous really.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021, 00:53 pat and ben both have cubans in the finals.........i'll say pat wins but ben loses. pat is better of the two and his cuban is a bit longer in the tooth than ben's is. ben also had very close calls in his last 2 fights.

I missed the memo on that one.
Was impressed with Torrez in his semi win, he turned it into a real slugfest and actually looked like a fighter very confident in his own chin, so he’s a brave kid for sure.
No boxing till tomorrow ? Who’s the jolly banger ??
Great personality Ben Whitaker but a dull boxer for the pros I think.
I guess matchroom are gonna be looking to snap up a lot of the superstars here, but I’d be thinking twice about seeing my career possibly disappear onto a relatively obscure app like DAZN, I couldn’t even be bothered to watch Saturdays fights to be honest. Although it was a dire lineup.

The Jolly Banger is Jalolov Bakhodir. He's not former pro though, he just started a pro career along with his amateur home stretch. Anyway, he had only 8 pro-fights, majorly against not much experienced journeymen.

Hopefully Frazer can pull off the upset, looks a long shot though.

Or will I have to scratch around the red button to find it being shown from the 2nd round and all that rubbish??

That’s really interesting info. I know previously there was a limit of 3 pro fights, how many can you have now?DrDuke wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021, 04:43Yes, today there's no boxing.MightyWarrior wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021, 04:04 Wow ! just watched the Jalolov / Torrez fight, that was a scary knockout, though it looked like a middleweight v a heavy somehow, and comments saying Jalolov was a former pro….I still don’t understand how pros are allowed to switch back to Am, makes no sense to me and ridiculous really.

Re: Pat McCormack Olympics
last olympics even had former world champs......this olympics i notice more guys with pro experience, but less guys with big pro experience
christina hammer tried to qualify but lost her first match at the qualifying tournament
masternak was shooting for the olympics, but i think ended up deciding to concentrate on the pros again

I don't know the limit, but it looks like there're special rules, where the amount of fights can vary.Frostieballs wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021, 19:23 That’s really interesting info. I know previously there was a limit of 3 pro fights, how many can you have now?

Pats final in an hour, hope he can do it.
Seen Luke has already committed to turning over. I have only ever seen them in the olympics so basing this purely on the last 10 days, but I like Luke’s style better for the pros. Sits down in his shots a bit more, really grit his teeth to get through his last fight where the Cuban was clearly too slick for him.

Surely one of the best fights of this olympics so far, as Yafai barnstorms his way past the Cuban

Enjoyed the Yafai fight as well.
Re: Pat McCormack Olympics
A solid attempt by Pat, but Iglesias simple was better in class.
The Cuban is a great boxer, he won an experienced and accomplished Andrey Zamkovoy in 1/2, after what he schooled the young and hungry McCormack.
