Frazier Clark wins by controversial dq. I had him up 2-0 (15 seconds to go in the 2nd so I can score it I guess) but I’ll admit I wanted Frazer to win, so who knows how bias I was being.. and the French guy got a ton of warnings for leaning in head first.

Fraze garenteed a medal which is excellent, going to have to fight a semi (and mabey a final) with a decent cut over the eye, no idea what happens there if they let him or if he has to pull out and get the bronze. Hopefuly they got someone with the super glue and realy go hard on the glue and vasso.

Frenchy took defeat had, might be in a bit of trouble….

The DQ sucked. I had Aliev up after the 1st, so as 3 of the judges.

And what if Clarke pulls out on a cut now? A sh!tty situation.

A bizarre scene. French Super Heavy sat on the ring apron in silent protest after the match for quite some time. I think I heard the NBC stream say something about the French delegation doing an appeal or a challenge or something like that.

No. The ref seemed to deduct a point from him, but then he DQed him right after showing a deduction sign to the judges. Kinda weird.

weird. maybe theres a rule that they cant dq guys without having had deducted them first, and that was the refs way of doing it

It was weird. Ref got dr to look at the cut then ref looked at the cut befor doing anything. Then did the point take and dq.

I think the ref basicaly was stopping it for the cut, but because the cut was supposedly from a head, and he continued to lead with the head (not badly though) the ref decide that was how to do it.

Was a close fight, likely coming down to the third round (although not if I scored it) but if the ref thinks the cut was from leading with the head, and thinks the cut was worthy of stopping the fight then I guess that’s all he can do. Cant have a no contest or technical draw in a tournement. And can’t punish they guy who got fouled.

well, if the cut was too bad for clark to continue the bout, surely he's out of the tournament, otherwise why stop it if he's healthy to box

It was a weird stop for sure. Would never stop a pro fight for that cut, and it wasn’t technically stopped for a cut, but it definatly made the refs mind.

You can do a lot more in 2 days than between rounds, I don’t know what t usual is for cuts mid ams tournements never seen anyone attempt going into a pro fight with a proper fresh cut (for obvious reasons)…

Clark has been working at this dream for so so long, and it has million dollar implications on his pro career, so I wonder what can be done in a day or 2. Surely nothing is off limits to him, combo of glue and stitching with extra vasso… burn it sealed? Tape (could you put tape around your head like a rugby player, probably not but iv never read the ams rule books…). I hope he gets something done and gets out there, tough opponent, but you would wanna have a crack. Team GB will have a plastic surgian at home to fix up there running repairs..

Here's the fight itself:

If they meet again, the Jolly Banger will definitely repeat. However, Kunkabayev will win Torrez in 1/2. The Uzbek has already dealt with the Kazakh as well and he'll do it again.

:box: Fuuck yeah!

My fellow Ohioan, Duke Ragan already secured himself the bronze medal :box: just decisioned Ghana's top man Samuel Takyi. Onwards to the gold!

It's been 1984 the last time an American won gold in the featherweight division. :yay:

Man that fight was phenomenal to top it all off. Reagan went all in against the taller man. Plastered him with combos.

Too true. Came in chopping that man like a tree. The American team has got some pretty caliber offensive fighters this time around. I hope Torrez gets the gold medal too.

A great performance by Torrez. That was an upset and a spectacular one. Although Torrez remains an underdog for the finale.

Sucks about the Cuts for frazer. would of loved to see him try sign a big promoter and get strait onto a big card while there is still abit of olympic medal buzz.. AJ vs usyk undercard would of been quality. they are olympic medalists, add another. even if he turns pro probably wont fight this year now with cuts healing and converting to pro ect.

Torrez should be eying that AJ vs Wilder undercard. if he gets a gold work striat onto that...

Too often olympians take a year to convert styles, which makes sense, but the buzz is gone, you can learn while beating journyman anyway.

Torrez appeared to be a good fighter. Well, he looked good from the start, but I gave him Bronze max after seeing him knocked out cold by Jalolov.

Torrez against Pero was an even matchup in my eyes, yet Torrez won Pero confidently, despite the fact of Pero being more diverse and having Mike Tyson alike face.

Kunkabayev was seen by me as a huge favorite against Torrez, but Torrez just destroyed him. Outboxed, knocked down, cut with a clean punch - poor Kazakh suffered all sorts of troubles and was trying to save himself in clinches.

Actually, Jalolov is still a favorite for the finale, but as if he was rocked by Clarke not by chance, while Torrez was destroying his worst rival. Furthermore, Torrez was only 20, when he was iced by the Uzbek. So, who knows, maybe it'll be something interesting in the finale. I'll root for the underdog Torrez.

The Jolly Banger vs The Curly Destroyer, let's get it on :box:

Best Olympic boxing in a long time, IMO; not JUST because the Americans decided to show up for once.
