The Turkish cheek won the Gold vs the Chinese one. Fair enough. The Chinese was spoiling the fight and got outfought. And the Turk was looking the most interesting at her weight through the whole tourney.

Probably the upset lightning won't strike again at this Olympics, but who knows...

Lightweight; Davis v Cruz will be the p4p match of the Olympics, IMO.

As an American, I want Davis to win of course but it's going to take a stoppage to win IMO. Cruz is looking very sharp.

The 91+ final between Torrez of the US vs the UZB will be fun to watch. I know the UZB ko'd Torrez at the 2019 worlds but revenge will be sweet if Torrez pulls this off. He's a pretty interesting guy....very smart academically, plays chess, likes classical music. His father is a Vice Principal of a high school and competed in the '84 Olympic trials.

Totally agree. Davis will have to step it up big time to get by Cruz.

Khataev already expressed desire to go pro.

Khyzhniak is likely to stay in the amateurs, he talked some stuff about still aiming at the Olympic Gold.

The row of SHWs should go pro.

The Cuban won Davis very closy. It was a 4:1 SD, but I felt, like Davis deserved it more.

Meanwhile, Ireland was able to score its single Gold. Kallie Harrington outboxed the Brazilian girl.

davis and ragan losing their finalss and usa not winning gold in 16 years would make it even more special if torrez gets the big upset

Hats off to the American big man Torres, that was a performance full of guts and heart. Had the Jolly Banger on the ropes for a moment.

Yeah, Torrez gave everything he had. A honorable loss. Yet The Jolly Banger was just too good.

good effort torrez, even won the first on most of the cards. but took a drubbing in the 2nd and outboxed in the 3rd. he just couldnt avoid the big right well enough

i thought the point deduction was lame though, jalolov spent way more time holding than torrez did heading

So, Cuba wins it with 4 Golds and 1 Bronze.

Great Britain is the second with 2 Golds, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronzes.

Russia is the third with 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronzes. Ties with GBR in the overall amount of medals.

USA is the tenth with 3 Silvers and 1 Bronze, although it goes after Cuba, GBR and Russia in the overall contest.

so who do we pick for the val barker award?

jolly has a case with three 5-0 decisions and a stoppage. he only had 2 rounds scored against him all tournament.

Although Torrez Jr lost, I think it goes without saying that he was the star of men's Olympic boxing. I didn't care for how the Uzbekistani acted or carried himself. From what highlights I saw all he did was clinch and lean on Torrez.

Many people thought that Torrez would get knocked out, but he actually brought the fight to the much taller man and hurt him in the first round. Torrez is improving and is only going to get better. If these two men ever meet in the pros I'm going with Torrez.

To put things into perspective it took a professional boxer to beat an amateur, and not really all that impressively. :TU: Jesus Christ Almighty God bless you all.

Torrez performed like a Rocky through this tourney, including the finale.

I was giving him Bronze at best, but he outclassed Kunkabayev in 1/2. And he gave everything against The Jolly Banger, so you can't say anything bad about him. Yes, he lost and his opponent was better that day, but he brought it on without taking a step back. A courageous effort.

I definitely will follow his pro career, hopefully he starts it asap. If he meets the Jolly again, I'll still root for Torrez.
