Murray ready to inflict first degree Burns
Hennessy Sports Press Release

Undefeated, Manchester super featherweight sensation John Murray is relishing his impending British title aspirations against Ricky Burns and new champion, Carl Johanneson.

After a six-month break, Murray recently re-acquainted himself to winning ways with a clinical win against Billy Smith. The win sets Murray up nicely for his British title final eliminator against Ricky Burns in October.

“That was a good tune up, not many people stop Billy Smith but I broke him down. It’s got me hungry for Burns and I can’t wait for that fight,” said Murray.

“It’ll be great to represent Hennessy Sports against Burns especially as a shot at the British title is the reward. I know that the entire stable is looking forward to it and they are all going to get behind me.

“This will be the third time Hennessy Sports and Sports Network have gone head to head.

“Lenny Daws wiped the floor with Nigel Wright and in my eyes Lee Meager easily beat Danny Hunt. It is testament that Lee is now British champion.

“So I’ll be looking to continue the winning record and make it three nil.”

Murray then detailed his training schedule for the forthcoming Burns showdown.

“I’ll be getting the best possible training for Burns. I’ll be spending four weeks down at the London gym with my trainer Joe Gallagher; the sparring is easily the best in the UK.

“I’m not taking the fight for granted but I’m going to cut Burns in two to get my shot at the title and then I’m headhunting Johanneson.”

Murray is confident that neither boxer can stop his title aspirations

“I think the Alex Arthur result flattered Burns- he just survived. Murray versus Burns is a no contest- Burn’s is getting stopped in October.

“Then I’m going to be all over Johanneson for his title. The clock has already started ticking for his mandatory- the title won’t be his for long!

“Carl did well against Billy but I think the stoppage was premature. It’s well known that Corcoran thrives in those situations but the ref gave him no chance. Let’s not forget that Billy had just hurt Johanneson with a straight right.

“It’s going to be a different story for Carl when we face off- I’m going to be bull strong at the weight.”

Murray can only see a one-way power exchange with Johanneson.

“I didn’t see any power punching by Johanneson that could hurt me. But I’ll be unloading my guns on him and sending the bullets with VAT when we meet.”

“The British title is mine,” he confidently concluded.

Promoter Mick Hennessy was equally confident of his young charge.

”John is an tremendous prospect and I think he’s going to prove to be a huge star,“ said Hennessy.

“He’s from Manchester, and he’s based in Manchester.

“And I am sure that when he starts headlining Manchester shows, the crowds will follow.

“I was really pleased with how John boxed Billy Smith after six months out. He’s got a brilliant jab and used it well to break Smith down.

“John is developing into a classy box fighter, I think it’s a credit to his trainer Joe Gallagher. Joe and John work really well together.

“I’m confident that John will win the British title. He’s already showed his pedigree when he won the Mendoza fight. People played down John’s achievements in winning the WBC Youth World title. But Mendoza was a dangerous operator who would take care of a lot the domestic players in this country.”

Hennessey really needs to find someone else to write his releases.
I was cringing all the way through that one.
At the very least they should avoid it sounding identical to the ones for Froch.

Can anyone actually picture Murray coming close to beating Burns?

"When you come to Mandchester I am gonna break you in two: I hope you are training hard" (or words to that effect)

- that was what Murray had to say to Burns in his post fight interview (after over coming the mighty billy smith!)

I think those word could come back to haunt him.

I can see Murray beating Burns but agree that these statements do tend to make all Hennessey fighters sound like nobheads. Let fighters develop their own personalities instead of trying to make everyone into a cocky Naz type twat

Murray-Burns is an excellent eliminator.

I think the best way to go with the Hennessy press releases is to take them with a large pinch of salt.

I've met a few of the lads in the camp and not one of them strikes me as
the type to spout off.

John did say he was going to break Burns in two after his latest win and I can only presume he's really fired up for it or there may be some history between the two of them.

Someone asked the question "can anyone actually picture Murray coming close to beating beating Burns?" and my answer is a resounding yes. I think Murray is that good. Burns is no mug though and I sincerely hope Murray is preparing very thoroughly for this.

I don't like the talk of beating Johanneson , seems like he;s looking past Burns(lets hope it's just Hennessy building things up) .

I think this is a match between Britians two best prospects , I can imagine myself getting a lot of people disagreeing with this with Amir Khan being touted as the main prospect in britain but I feel these guys are defiently the real deal and I can't say that about Khan .

I favour Murray but a Burns win wouldn't suprise me .

These are both good fights for Murray and definite step ups.

And as much as I like Murray I cannot help thinking he`d start the underdog against Burns and Johanneson.
Burns would keep him on the outside and try to whip his punches in when possible and for me Murray don`t hit hard enough to keep Johanneson off him...major respect if he takes any of these dangerous guys...but then again he has never yet shyed away :x

you can just ask David Haye as you know chad good ticket sellers on the undercard make up most of the shows.

I think this fight has come a little early for both fighters.... especially Burns who I think needs a couple more televised by easy wins just to keep him in the public eye as a winner.

Tough Tough fight to call. Burns can't crack an egg, Murray isn't the second coming of Tyson either.... It might go down to if Burns has the power to keep Murray off, I think he has the superior handspeed.

No doubt the Murry hype machine will go into over drive now Big fat Mick has got him on board...although i must say he did look very impressive in his last fight.. not many people do that to Smith... I do think altough impressive Johannson win against Corchran was. we shouldnt get carried away with it..Billy has never really impressed me (remeber seeing him in against Jimmy Beech) and his only big win was against a inactive un motivated Roy Rutherford...always new Johannson would just walk right thru Billy...Not to sure if Carl could get away with charging against Murry

Really disapointed that Warren pulled Mitchell out on the elimenator althogh not to sure if Murrey would have taken it anyway so a bit of bluff from both parties i think....

It's a good debate, bill. Trouble is, there's been a bit of messing around, as you well know. Burns is a talent, but I can't see him going much further than British level. Mitchell should be in the mix, but it's hello WBU for him.

The hype machine may well go into overdrive for Murray, but at least he's heading down the correct route with his fight against Burns. Say what you will about Meaty Mick, his fighters do go the traditional route at least. And I think Murray is a damn good fighter.

One thing's for sure, by taking the British title eliminator, he's stolen a march on Mitchell. On another note, I look forward to seeing Murray at 130lb's. I can't remember him making the superfeatherweight limit yet in his career. If he can get down to it easily, he could be a very strong boy.

Johanssen is the new name in the mix, of course, given his lack of exposure to most of us in Britain. I've no idea how far he personally can go, but one thing's for sure: If any of Burns, Murray, Mitchell or any other British contenders want to head to world level, they'll have to go through a very good test on the way there. Another reason to take the British, rather than the WBU route, I'd have thought.

It's all to play for in the Super featherweight division. Carl Johannson is going to be hard to beat and Billy Corcoran can definitely re-build and come again.

Murray-Burns should be a cracker and whoever wins that one and goes on to challenge Johannson should also be a belter too, so it appears the top fights will happen. I can't see Kevin Mitchell getting involved. I'm sure he'd love to but FW won't be having any of it IMO.

Mitchell is the one for me....that boy has got lots in him and he just needs a big fight to bring it all out.... Kev will box Murrys ears off just with the basics

Both fighters are over hyped in my opinion.

They have potential, but look at Mitchell - He's already 20-0 and hasn't really had any kind of stiff test (although he has laboured a few times) or a fight where a more repsectable title is on the line and it doesnt look like that is going to change for the foreseeable future.

Murray being matched with Burns is very interesting, and if he beats Burns he is going to be well above Mitchell in the pecking order.
