Ferrocious Fernando Vargas ?
What you all reckon,
Is Vargas finished ?
I think he would be a beast with his power punching style and strength at super middle.
His too big to get down to light middle, its like if mosley fought at lightweight.
I reckon he was weight drained, he looked weak and tired, forcing his punches, don't think he is shot, just needs to move up to super middle.

200lbs would be only 3 stone above fighting weight (at 154) and for a fighter who 's been inactive its not too far fetched.
What does hatton weigh when he balloons? must way in excess of 12stone, especially if he weighs 10st at weigh in, 11 on fight night, wouldnt surprise me if it was 12st 7lbs between fights, easily.
Didnt Margarito weigh 175lbs on fight night during one fight ??

Fernando is mexican - and he likes to eat. He cant resist his family's cooking and enjoys his enchillads, his burritos and his sour cream maan.
A warrior mentality, weight fluctuations, back problems and a condenced career have lead to him being 'shot' at 28.
I hope he retires, I have really enjoyed his career and he has many buisness ineterests to occupy his time now, though I wouldnt be surprised it he made a run at the middleweight crown.

Vargas was done after the Trinidad fight, he got KOed so badly he never ever recovered from it...sometimes, brutal KOs can end a fighter's career...
The same thing happened to Anatoly Alexandrov when he was KOed by Freitas...he was getting KD by journeymen (just like Vargas got KD and hurt by Wilfredo Rivera or Flores)...

I think last week he looked either shot or dead at the weight. I think its harsh the people who said he was done after DLH (lots even say after Tito).
He loooked alright vs Castilejo and in the first Mosley fight. I just think he has always been a tad overated. He couldn't hang with all time greats like Tito and DLH (both near or at the peak of their powers) - but could with who maybe were on a similar level (2006 version of Mosley) or fighters who style (i.e. lesser workrate, lesser agression and less power) suited him (e.g. Wright).
The Mosley first fight is probably among his 3-4 most convincing performances... if you put in an effort like that then you were not done before.
However, that might have been the last big performance, or the 1 final great night that lots of fighters have when they appear to be shot (e.g. Ali vs Spinks II, Whittikar vs DLH). Having said that, if he wants to continue I'm sure he can do a Gatti and make a challenge at a higher weight without to much complaint.
Think Middle will be more suitable than Super Middle... He'll get pushed back to easily at Super Middle. He is tough, but his 3 stoppage losses have come against Welterweight (albeit big punching ones). He looked pretty good on his Middleweight return (before the Mosley dual) and that where he should have stayed.

Couldn't he get his tyroid removed?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Vargas was walking around at over 200, he has had thyroid problems for a long time.
I know humans are different like but I'm wondering if they can remove thyroid glands in people like they did with my cat.
Seems to diet ok when making weight but he does look huge for Light Middle even then.
Yet when they train for a fight they can make really light weights!Fernando is mexican - and he likes to eat. He cant resist his family's cooking and enjoys his enchillads, his burritos and his sour cream maan.

DLH an all time great? I remember him getting schooled by Quartey, Sturm & Hopkins. Not quitestujones wrote:I think last week he looked either shot or dead at the weight. I think its harsh the people who said he was done after DLH (lots even say after Tito).

Vargas was very good. Two extremely good wins over Wright & Quartey. The Wright win was controversial and Quartey seemed like he wasn't the same after getting robbed in his previous fight. But a win is a win. And those two wins balance the Tito and DLH losses. But then the 2 losses to Mosley have really blighted his record.
He could go for a shot against Castillejo, new middleweight king.

As far as I am aware, Cats don't box.Max Molyneux wrote:Couldn't he get his tyroid removed?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Vargas was walking around at over 200, he has had thyroid problems for a long time.

Sure, you can have your thyroid removed, but that then means your body is totally unable to produce thyroxine, thus your metabolism will be very slow.
Of course, you can take Thyroxine supplements, but this is going to have side effects as you no longer have your thyroid to regulate the metabolism. Whilst thyroid surgery is fine for most people, I would imagine that for an athlete there would be undesirable effects of having total thyroxine replacement therapy.
Carl Thompson will have something to say about thatjamesmcdonnell wrote:
