Torrez did hurt Jalolov briefly. The Eurosport Aussie commentary is awful. Apparently Jalolov is 2 foot taller

means you lost in the quarterfinals. so 4 people progressed further than you. so you are equal 5th. Why would that not be a thing?watsupdoc87 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 02:47 The commentary on my stream keeps saying the uzbek was 5th in Rio. Since when is that a thing![]()

Re: Tokyo olympics
Never heard of a boxer being 5th in olympic. A quarterfinalist but never as 5th. Just like in football a team gets knocked out in the cup their quarterfinalists not 5th placegregregegg wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 02:49means you lost in the quarterfinals. so 4 people progressed further than you. so you are equal 5th. Cuba wins the tournament with 4 Golds and 1 Bronze.
Great Britain is the second with 2 Golds, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronzes.
Russia is the third with 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronzes. Ties with GBR in the overall amount of medals.
USA is the tenth with 3 Silvers and 1 Bronze and it goes after Cuba, GBR and Russia in the overall contest.

Cant say i think he was in line for that... but yea shame for him he didnt get gold. He could try next Olympics too.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 03:26 Well Torrez loses $10 million off his signing bonus and a mill off his first purse
Basicaly fight 4 times over the next 12 months, then 4 times in the 12 months after that after that, then twice the next 6 months after that and back into the ams for 6 months....

Re: Tokyo olympics
for a lot of these yanks i think pro success means a lot more to them than winning a gold medal, the olympics are kinda out of style in usa boxing
Re: Tokyo olympics
It'll be interesting to see him in pros. However, he's a heavyweight and only 22. He'll be 25 next Olympics. If he starts pro-career after that, he can be in big fights without a rush by 30.gregregegg wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 03:50Cant say i think he was in line for that... but yea shame for him he didnt get gold. Re: Tokyo olympics
Yep i tend to think he shoud try fight in the Olympics in France. But if USA boxing let him, i wouldent be shocked if he dips his toe in the pro game first.DrDuke wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 03:57It'll be interesting to see him in pros. Re: Tokyo olympics
would he even want to though? amateur boxing isnt a big deal for everyone, especially when it involves sacrificing a promising pro career and your early-mid 20s. all merely for the possibility of winning a gold in the next olympics....i dunno
Re: Tokyo olympics
If I was Torrez, I'd go pro. He has just become famous, he won a medal in a SHW division, which hadn't been possible for his country for a couple of decades. He should grab a good promotion and get tracked to the top at the pros, while he's young and able to learn.

Re: Tokyo olympics
I am not sure what the cash parameters are for signing on figures, but come on it would’ve been huge had he hit gold. USA had a great history in Olympic boxing and love the big men yet have become a secondary or tertiary boxing nation now….. Torrez would’ve been front page news - reversing a KO loss, for an unexpected Gold as an underdog, at only 22, with fan friendly style and good looking guy…. AND If you’re inclined to mention it, he’s a white hispanic. First super heavy medal since Bowe’s rather placid silver in 1988, and first gold since Biggs in 1984. First USA MALE gold since Ward in 2004…. 16/17 years ago!gregregegg wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 03:50Cant say i think he was in line for that... but yea shame for him he didnt get gold. Come on man, he could name whatever price he wanted. Which US amateur turning over ever could compete with that win!?
Anyway even as an unexpected silver he’ll get plenty press and get a great offer so will prob turn pro in next year or so. He’s such an easy sell and he can even play the hard luck story of giving a great account of himself against an unbeaten 100% KO record pro and experience amateur…. Who’s Kod him as a virtual kid and when Balolov was already pro!
