pick jalolov's next 3 fights
who would you pick as big golden jolly's next 3 opponents?
i say something like:
andrey rudenko --> mariusz wach/hammer --> sergey kuzmin
i know not exactly setting the world on fire, but i think it's a realistic semi-fast tracking that puts him close to being a contender in the next year. more than anything right now, he needs to start by fighting durable experienced guys who gradually offer more of a challenge. so far he's blasted out everyone pretty fast.

All those will be journeymen, don't get too optimistic. I just hope it'll be the likes of Kamil Sokolowski, i.e. good journeymen, not punching bags. After that he can fight some gatekeeper, or am I too optimistic?
Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
Dovbyshchenko from Ukraine
Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
In October there's AIBA World Boxing Championship in Belgrad. Before Tokyo Jalolov said, he wants to compete in Olympics and World Championship first, and after that 100% go to pros. So, I don't see him fighting this year in pros

Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
yeah but he's already fought pro this year, just last April. Nothing stopping him from continuing his pro career even if he enters the worlds or even the 2024 Olympics
Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
First Bout: Some scrub to get back to fighting over 3 rounds (probably one round blowout)
Second Bout: Kamil (tough fight for anyone)
Third Bout: Jon Rice (if can repeat his last performance it'll be a good test for J-lov.

Hammer definitely somewhere in there. Looks awful since having Covid, but still lasted the full 10 rounds against Tony Yoka, whose basically walking a bit further down the same path that Jolly will soon take.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 05:19 who would you pick as big golden jolly's next 3 opponents?

Wach will be an interesting one, a bit tougher, as Jolly won't be able to hug and lean down on him, a la klitschko. tall lad, probably bigger than Jolly even.
Kuzmin is no tomato can either. Hopefully whoever is managing Jolly finds that delicate balance between Hrgovic and Dubois in terms of climbing that pro ladder.

Already has 8 pro fights and rated #55 in the world according to the BoxRec algorithm. NABF Junior Champion.
Which brings up a much needed discussion as to whether professionals should compete against amateurs, or whether there should be a separate professional section in the Olympics.
I suspect fully he will continue to face journeyman, so he can continue to pad his amateur record. This whole world series of boxing thing, in my view, has done a disservice to both professional and amateur boxing.
Once you compete as a professional you should no longer be able to compete as an amateur. Just my opinion.

I guess he'll continue with Russian opponents for logistical reasons, no fellow Uzbeks are likely to give him a work out.
I'd aim for a well known but well post prime Alexandr Ustinov or maybe Vladimir Tereshkin who is lined up to be Jared Anderson's next opponent.
Next up maybe Apti Davtaev or Sergei Kuzmin. Very ambitious for a young pro but Jalolov is a special talent.
Then Andrei Fedosov if he is back in Russia if not maybe someone like Joey Dawejko, Jonnie Rice, or Gerald Washington or if keeping it European maybe Mariusz Wach, Ali Eren Demirezen, or Christian Hammer.

Yeah, I agree. No pros in the ams and no pros in the Olympics, in any sport.HomicideHenry wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 14:29 https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/834487

I don't agree with NBA players being in the Olympics either, etc--- it should be strictly amateurs only. However I did say that there should be a professionals section for the Olympics as well.
Could you imagine Fury vs Joshua for the gold medal? Or Klitschko making his return in the Olympics? That would be quite tremendous. All of these fights that can't be made because of promotional disputes could be easily made in Olympic style tournaments.

Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
I wouldn't sleep on Joey Dawejko. That's a man who can go 10 or 12 rounds with most anybody. Tough nut to crack.
I think the man from Uzbekistan is being overhyped. Far too many expectations too soon, and he simply hasn't fought anybody as a heavyweight professional yet.

Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
I guess I mean in "sports" rather than "athletics". Boxing, Basketball, football, tennis, golf etc. I would rather see young competitors or even former pros have a go. I guess in the short run that could have a more harmful affect on the careers of those in lesser known sports and those in women's competition but that's just the way I view it.ironbeard wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 15:22Most of the top athletes are pros in a very wide variety of the events.joshj909 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 14:51Yeah, I agree. Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
is the uzbek government paying him big bucks for winning these amateur events? having already won all the major tournaments, i would've thought he'd want to focus full time on pro now, but i guess not.
Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
I do not disagree. I just don’t know how it could be accomplished at this point. Maybe separate Olympics for pros and amateurs. I wouldn’t mind going to separate comps for PEDs and clean competitors on the am and pro levels.joshj909 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 16:33I guess I mean in "sports" rather than "athletics". Pipe dreams.

joey's great for going the distance, but he hasnt shown me anything that makes me think he'd be much of a threat to actually beat jollyHomicideHenry wrote: ↑08 Aug 2021, 16:29 I wouldn't sleep on Joey Dawejko. That's a man who can go 10 or 12 rounds with most anybody. Tough nut to crack.

at 5'10 he'd have a hell of a time getting inside the long jab and lefts
i know joeys sparred a ton of good pros, wonder if he's ever been in with jalo

Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
i dont mind it........is a guy with a few uncompetitive pro fights vs scrubs really getting any more of an advantage than a 30 year old career amateur cuban who has had like 400 fights in the format?
so far over 2 olympics with pros, only 2 have won gold medals. jalolov and a 22 year old russian dude with 3 pro fights. funny enough , the really established pros like ndam , ruongrong, etc all lost almost straight away.........the ams are a different game

Re: pick jalolov's next 3 fights
I was more agreeing with Hank's Joshua or Fury example but it's true in principle in all sports.
You're a young talented amateur tennis player dreaming of Olympic glory since childhood and suddenly you're confronted by Federer or Djokovic. How is that fair?
Actually tennis is a bad example as I don't think there was ever amateur tennis at the Olympics but the principle still stands.
