2020 Olympic Boxing

Wonder what are the countries that still have the amateur boxing league system. Poland had one in the previous era, it was very popular and was one of the reasons why Polish boxers did very well in the olympics boxing, but aren't making any success since 1992 olympics. I guess maybe the post-Soviet countries still have it.

Although Torrez Jr lost, I think it goes without saying that he was the star of men's Olympic boxing. I didn't care for how the Uzbekistani acted or carried himself. From what highlights I saw all he did was clinch and lean on Torrez.

Many people thought that Torrez would get knocked out, but he actually brought the fight to the much taller man and hurt him in the first round. Torrez is improving and is only going to get better. If these two men ever meet in the pros I'm going with Torrez.

To put things into perspective it took a professional boxer to beat an amateur, and not really all that impressively. Jesus Christ Almighty God bless you all.

I'm not sure we see such a rematch in pros. Torrez will at least go 1(or even 2) categories down if he moves to pros and when we talk about his style, he can't box all 12 rounds in that way, how he did in Tokyo with pressure, fast moves and so on

Well it's not like they would throw him into 8, 10, 12 round bouts off the bat. Personally I think his style is more suited towards the pros than it is the amateurs. Slowly but surely he would get better as time goes on and I can see him eventually meeting the man all over again.

As for the assertion that he couldn't throw as many punches as he did per round in the Olympics if he became a professional I tend to disagree--- it can be done, just would take a lot of conditioning. I've seen heavyweights in the past of similar size in the past do so.

mate, he absolutely battered torrez with left hands in round 2, hurting him and bloodying him, then handily won the 3rd. he did clinch and lean and i didnt like it, but he landed by far more punches and had torrez in trouble. there is no way you could score that fight for torrez and no one who actually watched the full thing did

He may have but the highlights didn't look like that @ "absolutely battered Torrez". Still I find it more impressive that the American lasted the distance when nobody gave him a chance at all in doing that, especially when the other man is a professional with a boxing title, then the so-called professional winning a gold medal against a bunch of amateurs.

try to find the full fight mate, it was huge round for jalolov. this description is pretty accurate, from an american boxing writer:

Jalolov turned the tide in a big way in a near-disastrous round two for Torrez. Jalolov landed several left hands, one which produced a cut outside the left eye of Torrez, who was also deducted one point and also suffered a standing eight count after being rocked midway through the round.

In the 2nd round Torrez looked ready to go by the amateur standards. A couple of same shots and he could be given a count easily.

This Olympics is the best thing, which happened to boxing this year. A great tourney, where the best fought each other, while Fury, Wilder, Joshua, Canelo, Plant, Lopez and other pros had different kinds of soap opera outside of the ring.
