DAZN books Smith-Fowler for Oct. 9th

A huge Liverpool, England showdown will take place later this year as former 154-pound title holder Liam Smith goes up against Anthony Fowler. The two men will go head to head on a Matchroom Boxing show at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on October 9th, live worldwide on DAZN.

Smith (29-3-1, 16 KOs) was last in action in May, suffering a controversial decision loss to undefeated Magomed Kurbanov in Russia, but will now look to return to winning ways against Fowler.

Fowler (15-1, 12 KOs) was victorious at Matchroom Fight Camp on Saturday, stopping Rico Mueller in the eight round to make it six wins in a row since his defeat to Scott Fitzgerald in 2019. A victory for Smith should set him on the right path to get back in world title contention, as he looks to again claim world honors after previously holding the WBO title from 2015 to 2016.

Ted Cheeseman vs Troy Williamson, Peter McGrail’s pro debut announced for Smith vs Fowler card

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn announced at the July 31 Fight Camp show that Liam Smith will face Anthony Fowler in an Oct. 9 main event in Liverpool, England, and Matchroom have now added some official undercard bouts, plus the pro debut of Great Britain Olympian Peter McGrail.

McGrail, 25, lost his first bout in Tokyo on July 24, dropping a decision to Chatchai-decha Butdee, the standout veteran from Thailand. He won bronze medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships, and gold at the 2018 Commonwealth games. He figures to fight as a featherweight or junior lightweight to start as a professional.

The featured undercard bout will see Ted Cheeseman (17-2-1, 10 KO) defend his British 154 lb title against Troy Williamson (16-0-1, 12 KO), which could be a real show stealer. Both guys have some power and come to fight, and Cheeseman in particularly is reliably good TV.

Kieron Conway (16-2-1, 3 KO) will face JJ Metcalf (21-1, 13 KO) in another junior middleweight bout, and Liverpool native Luke Willis (10-0, 1 KO) will take on Rylan Charlton (6-1-1, 3 KO).

Really good show if all of the fights come off.
Fight Camp had struggled with various fights falling through (Benn, Marku, Shannon Courtney, Savannah Marshall, Felix Cash) but still the shows have been good.

This is solid card with evenly matched fights. Im going in this with Liam Smith, Ted Cheeseman and James Metcalf. Wondering if Kamil Sokolowski can put upset again, is this Solomon Dacres good ?

Dacres isn’t bad. Giving Sokolowski 2 months notice is unusual though. I fancy Dacres to win comfortably on points but may depend on whether Dacres can hold a shot. He’s active, decent jab and accuracy.

If Liam Smith is 50% of what he was he will give Fowler a real beating.

Dacres will be trolling Adeleye if he wins without controversy.

is there beef between adeleye and dacres/fisher, i constatnly see ppl measuring them up etc, like there is some requriement to mention them all together, but i dont know if that's because they are actually beefing or cuz there is just some natural tendency to compare fwank and ed's fighters

cant see them doing anything but the whole 'fighting by common opponent' for a while., none are really all that impressive tbh, lot of improvement needed.....adeleye 24, fisher is what 22, solo is i think 28 when this fight happens, with the deepest am background of the group. he gave dubois a good amateur fight for 2 rounds before getting battered in the 3rd

this is a nice card btw, looking forward to cheese-williamson the most, war :yay:

if fowler can beat smith, and finally actually beat someone of note rather than another undersized foriegner, he shoots up big time in my estimation. then match him vs the cheese-troy winner :box:

good test for solo, evenish matchup with conway and metcalf

i'll take my piss and pizza break during 'same gym as aj' s fight

Will tickets sell out like Kugan was saying yesterday to Liam Smith?

Eddie was saying his phone’s been crazy for tickets for it.

It will sell well - a big fight between 2 scousers tends to do well. From memory the Dodson, Quigley, Paul Smith fights sold well so I’d expect this to do the same.

Like this fight more than any of the Fight Camps or the Warrington show.

Hope the 3 main fights hold together.

I saw an interview with allegedly a couple of days ago. He said he’ll also promote a U.K. show on October 9th as the lead in to the Fury PPV.

He said he won’t change as he announced his intent to promote on that date ages ago and he wanted it to be the Yarde/Arthur rematch. Even though he doesn’t have a firm venue or any fight actually confirmed given Yarde’s still meant to be fighting in a couple of weeks.

Also still no announcement from BT re: Fury/Wilder.

It’s all good FW saying he booked dates etc, but he ain’t got a fight card, doesn’t have a venue, nothing.

I don’t mind Frank at all, but he doesn’t half piss me off with this crap he comes out with.

The 40s are going for 120 I've seen. I have no idea how people afford it these days with the hike in hotel costs in city centres and all the rest of it. I must be getting old as I begrudge paying this out any more.
