Ward was done at Super Middleweight at this point.
He still held the belt and was having promotional issues so couldn't fight, he was still a super-middleweight until he fought Paul Smith in 2015.
At which point Paul Smith was a Super Heavyweight so my original point stands.
No it doesn't because Ward was WBA super champ when Froch/Groves 2 took place, so that fight wasn't the top two in the division fighting, unless you think they were both better than Ward.

No, Ward would have beaten them both on the same night.

I was just trying to have a bit of fun. Apologies.

Jim Watt v Alexis Arguello is possibly one. The Ring had Hilmer Kenty #1 ahead of Watt, then Arguello prior to Kenty losing to Sean O'Grady - which wasn't long before Watt-Arguello.

Certainly Watson and Eubank were a lot better than Darrin Van Horn,Galvano and Tiozzo in 91 but it’s hardly fair really - I mean they just moved up straight into a vacant title fight

Charlie Magri and Santos Laciar were undoubtedly the two best flyweights in the world when they met at the Albert Hall in 1980. Charlie climbed off the floor to punch out a bruising 10-round decision.

Nunn was far and away the number one middleweight I’m afraid. The number one of any weight according to most in fact.

As boring as he was, it didn’t look as though he’d ever lose.

Inactivity didn't help Wlad to be honest,

Wilder was the long standing champion at the time..

Looking back you can say these things differently now.

Nah Vasquez got given one of the biggests gifts I've ever seen in his fight prior to Naz on the Holyfield vs Moorer rematch bill....people knew he was shot. Espinosa was the most viable opponent to Naz at that time
