Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Thomas Hearns

Post by zuru »

Lightheavyweight 15 rds

Hearns had trouble with the strong rugged types:Kinchen,Sutherland?,Barkley.
Saad is definitely that type.

Saad could be cut. Hearns could cut him and outspeed him, but Saad could stop him if he caught him.

Could Hearns avoid Saad for 15 rds? Possibly cut and swell his eyes for a stoppage or decision? Over the fight Saad tended to rally as Hearns tended to wane.

I think Hearns could win if he fought a textbook fight.

But if he allowed Saad to land it could be over at any point.

The great Thomas Hearns would get knocked out about the 7th round in a thrilling contest. Both of them were two of the most exciting fighters ever.

Matthew Saad Muhammad would have been too strong for The Hitman.

Not the best weight for Hearns. He was already past it there. Maybe he could have been better at LHW, if he entered the division earlier. Anyway, he still could hit and Saad would leave openings with his style. However, Hearns was vulnerable enough as well and considering that it was Saad's territory, Saad should have imposed his fight on Hearns.

Someone would get stopped and more likely Hearns.

I think Saad's natural size advantage wins the day here. Hearns is a better talent, and would give Saad problems for sure, but Saad couldn't be discouraged at his best, and would ultimately find the point of Hearns chin and end his night.

Hearns would make the better start with his superior handspeed, but MSM would force exchanges and begin getting in his shots. MSM by stoppage in 7.
