Ortiz-Kavaliauskas: Pablo Cano (Visa) Out, Danielito Zorrilla Fight Off; Rincon-Buzolin Elevated To Main DAZN Show
The show will go for Golden Boy Promotions, despite another hit to this weekend’s lineup.
A previously scheduled ten-round junior welterweight contest between Puerto Rico’s Danielito Zorrilla and Mexico’s Pablo Cesar Cano will no longer appear on this Saturday’s DAZN show from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. Cano (33-7-1, 23KOs) was unable to secure a visa to make the trip from Atizapan de Zaragoza, Mexico in time to appear on the card, leaving Puerto Rico’s Zorrilla (15-0, 11KOs) without an opponent and ultimately a fight, representatives from Golden Boy and Promociones Miguel Cotto confirmed to BS.com.
The DAZN telecast will proceed with four bouts, including the originally scheduled welterweight main event between unbeaten rising star Vergil Ortiz Jr. (17-0, 17KOs) and former title challenger Egidijus Kavaliauskas (22-1-1, 18KOs).
Filling the hole left behind by Zorrilla-Cano, locally based junior welterweight George Rincon (11-0, 7KOs) has been elevated to the main DAZN card. The 29-year-old southpaw from nearby Carrollton, Texas faces Nikolai Buzolin (8-3-1, 4KOs), a Brooklyn-based Russian export promoted by Dmitry Salita.
The evening’s chief support pits Venezuela’s Roger Gutierrez (25-3-1, 20KOs) and Nicaragua’s Rene Alvarado (32-9, 21KOs) in a rubber match for Gutierrez’s secondary WBA junior lightweight title. Alvarado won their first fight via seventh-round stoppage in July 2017, while Gutierrez won the rematch and an alphabet belt following a thrilling unanimous decision this past January at nearby American Airlines Center in Dallas.
Elevated from the opening slot, IBF junior flyweight titlist Felix Alvarado (36-2, 31KOs)—Rene’s twin brother—faces Puerto Rico’s Israel Vazquez (10-4-2, 7KOs) in a non-title fight now slated for the second televised bout of the evening. Alvarado was originally due to defend his title versus Erick Lopez, who dropped off the show less than two weeks ago. The unranked Vazquez was secured as a replacement foe, with the understanding that Alvarado’s title will not be at stake.
As previously reported by BS.com, the show’s lone other title fight fell through after Carlos Buitrago was unable to safely get down to the strawweight limit in time for his challenge of reigning WBO 105-pound titlist Wilfredo ‘Bimbito’ Mendez.
Promociones Miguel Cotto informed Boxing Scene that efforts will be made to reschedule Zorrilla-Cano in the near future.

Re: Vergil Ortiz vs. Egidijus Kavaliauskas - August 14, 2021
This is likely to be a much more technical fight than most of VOrtiz’s previous matches, at least to begin with. Kava is underrated defensively, and crafty offensively.
I look forward to seeing if/how VOrtiz adjusts to what is in front of him tonight. I VERY much doubt that the Lithuanian will be walked through. TCraw is his only L, which did not come easy for the Nebraskan.
