When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
The big hype from Dazn, Sky, social media. Man of the moment with Matchroom.
Skipped Area, English, British, Euro, Commonwealth. Why because he might have to face someone who came to win? Who could beat him? Is he a glorified flat track bully?
I'm looking at this Granados guys record. He hasn't beaten a non journeymen in 6 years.
What's all the noise about this fight, it's not even British level stuff?

Re: When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
He is way overprotected. Something is off with the matchmaking, they are too afraid to even put him in with Aveanesayn or Josh Kelly. McKinson or Ekow Essuman for British.
Calling out a shot Amir Khan for a payday. Talking of Errol Spence, why hasnt Benn even fought at domestic nevermind European level?
Maybe he is good but how can we know if he never gets matched in a competitive fight?
It feels like they are trying to hype him into paydays before the train gets derailed.

Not for a long time. It is unfortunate for him that 147lbs is the land of the killers. There are no easy or cheap routes to a World Title. Even the WBA 'Regular' is out of bounds. He will lose to one of those old vets because he will pick one who has one big performance left in them.
He is feasting on never-was, but soon his team will pick on the wrong 'has been'

He has to step up at some point, Benn jr Vs journeymen is doing views obviously so Hearn/Dazn will keep paying up for it but at some point he must fight a live body that will punch him back.lefthook82 wrote: ↑16 Aug 2021, 11:33 Not for a long time. He already has a load of money, if Benn ain't fighting for money and won't even fight the British/Euro guys nevermind World, where is it going.
A guy like him should not get everything handed to him because of his surname and father. Likewise Campbell Hatton.

Just seen the Ortiz Kavaliaskas fight. Quality operators. If Conor’s looking for a genuine gatekeeper to world level then he should fight Kava but I don’t think it would end well for him.
Re: When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
The difference in hype from sparking that Vargas journeyman is astounding.

i do think benn is good though and that the formella win is solid........formella actually beaten some decent guys
Re: When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
Is Benn British title level? He well might be but first he has to prove it against his domestic rivals rather than fighting washed up foreign, former title contenders.
Anthony Yarde style matchmaking.
Talk of Benn closing in on world title fights is a joke.
I’m no hater though and he is clearly much improved and very dedicated. I hope he ends up winning world honours but it’s a pet hate of mine when fighters are bypassed the British and European title routes.

Re: When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
granados was much more handy than vargas ever was, though seems to be on the slide
Re: When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
The wheels will fall off this bandwagon soon , can't wait to see him get splattered , i find him a big headed obnoxious little twerp , , he's well overpaid and underworked , and really does believe he's where he is because he has the skills to be there , sooner they put him in with a few live opponents the better , i say a few , because his head is so big , he'll refuse to believe he got beat by a better man , personally i would like to see Khan take the fight , shot or not i think Khan hands him a boxing lesson ,, notice he does'nt call out Brook , i think Brook would take it , and Brook would stop him quickly

At some stage people have to say, hang on a second, he ain't ever been in with someone whos coming to win.
We ain't asking for Errol Spence or Terence Crawford, just Brit/Euro level opposition.

I agree, I did notice that re Hearn and Benn calling out Khan repeatedly but not Brook.coneye wrote: ↑16 Aug 2021, 14:51 The wheels will fall off this bandwagon soon , can't wait to see him get splattered , i find him a big headed obnoxious little twerp , , he's well overpaid and underworked , and really does believe he's where he is because he has the skills to be there , sooner they put him in with a few live opponents the better , i say a few , because his head is so big , he'll refuse to believe he got beat by a better man , personally i would like to see Khan take the fight , shot or not i think Khan hands him a boxing lesson ,, notice he does'nt call out Brook , i think Brook would take it , and Brook would stop him quickly
Presumably they smell blood and Khan may be out of shape or not too arsed and they fancy it.
I think even though Brook and Khan are shot, if they prepare they probably school Benn. But the truth is he doesn't deserve that payday because he'd be getting it on nothing but his name.
Re: When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
I also don't understand why his opponents are all these foreign punch bags.
The UK, heck, England has plenty of guys he can knock about. Why not give their punch bag money to some locals
It's weird watching him on televised fights, and not having the foggiest idea how good or bad he is. I know for sure he is improving, but stuffed if I know how good or what level he is?
At a guess, Commonwealth level. Not British or Euro yet.
My guess is the hangover of another famous British boxing son Vs BJS for the Euro/Commonwealth/British. Benn ain't trying for any of those straps- like he should be...
They want to preserve Benn's "0" and are risk averse.
So we are left guessing.

Look at all these guys from #12 up.
Plenty of local talent who would love a payday and some telly coverage.

Heck, I didn't realise Connor was 18-0 already.

Re: When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
I think theres enough good fighters in the UK bringing in paid punchbags , is a travesty , and british boxing will suffer for it , Like i said it would'nt be so bad if he was'nt such an unlikable , big headed little prick , him just standing there with his designer beard designer shoulder bag and convertable car , telling the world how he's so motivated and so hard he deserves everything he gets , it just gives me the shits , especielly when theres guys out there who have to work all day , train at night and he still won't fight themKiwiRider wrote: ↑16 Aug 2021, 15:39 Look at all these guys from #12 up.

Just watched it myself and agree, great fight for Ortiz Jr who composed himself after getting tagged early and broke down a very useful opponent in 'Mean Machine'.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑16 Aug 2021, 13:57 Just seen the Ortiz Kavaliaskas fight. Yeah all the materialistic stuff is too much , but all these social media channels fuel it, and in that world they all seem to love him .coneye wrote: ↑16 Aug 2021, 16:11I think theres enough good fighters in the UK bringing in paid punchbags , is a travesty , and british boxing will suffer for it , Like i said it would'nt be so bad if he was'nt such an unlikable , big headed little prick , him just standing there with his designer beard designer shoulder bag and convertable car , telling the world how he's so motivated and so hard he deserves everything he gets , it just gives me the shits , especielly when theres guys out there who have to work all day , train at night and he still won't fight themKiwiRider wrote: ↑16 Aug 2021, 15:39 Look at all these guys from #12 up.

They tried to get Jenkins for him when he was British champ but didn’t want to wait for purse bids.peter barlow wrote: ↑16 Aug 2021, 14:57If he is the real deal, why protect him, why give him journeymen and not even domestic opponents?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑16 Aug 2021, 14:37 i do think benn is good though and that the formella win is solid........formella actually beaten some decent guys

Fighting Essuman won’t do anything for him profile wise. He isn’t known outside of the hardcore fans.
Granados isn’t anything special but beating him will make more noise in the US and it will allow him to be compared to the PBC guys who also beat him.
I think Benn has surprised people with how much he’s improved. I never thought he’d get to British title level let alone further than that.
He’s doing, by most accounts, strong viewing figures so they’re unlikely to really risk him unless it’s a really big fight. I’d love to see him fight Avanesyan but I think he gets beat so it’s unlikely to happen. Khan is a much bigger name, more winnable fight so I understand why they’re going after him.
His fight after Granados will be interesting. The Formella win was a pretty good one but Granados is a similar to level to Vargas. Hopefully it will be a step up for him.
Re: When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
To be fair to Benn, they did try to make the Jenkins fight (think Frank turned down the fight IIRC) and they also called out Josh Kelly a fair bit at a time when Kelly looked miles ahead of Benn. (Probably still is, I know he lost, but at least he fought someone good enough to lose to)
Granados may not look good on paper, but has put in some sterling losing efforts against some top fighters and has taken a couple 0s in his time (I particularly enjoyed the Imam fight).
If Benn is half the fighter they try to make him out to be, they should put him in with Avenesyan, so he can try to succeed where Kelly failed but that won't happen.

It's all getting a bit of a joke now
How can you get behind a lad who's having all this lardy dardy matchmaking?
I know it's not really how it works but I'd take a lad who is matched in hard (not thrown to the wolves) fights and even if they get beat they can hold their head up high and say they are doing what the majority of the sport isn't doing & testing themselves way harder than most of their peers
And I cannot fathom why a lot of folk get behind these s****y wins and don't feel the same regarding opponents, instead you've got absolute fools talking s**t about someone like Loma after one loss,a fool who probably couldn't run 2mile,let alone have a move about, too many run a boxer down and class him "finished" after losses, but if those losses are proper fights i think that career means so much more than all this padded by the promoter rubbish,

Re: When will Conor Benn fight a live opponent??
When he stops getting paid high risk money for low risk fights....
Honestly id like to see him just clean out brittish over the next year. Chris Jenkins, Chris Kongo, Josh Kelly, Ekow Essuman, Brook, Kahn... Need to let a couple of em get soft wins first so they are back in the green... mabey leave Michael McKinson, kinda a nightmare, unless his team like it. Mabey throw broner in there for an America fight. Jeff the hornet horn for an aus fight.... bam.
People were saying he was completly shit 2 years ago, those same people want him fighting top top guys now.... Its a bit confusing to me, do they think he went from completly shit to world levle in 2 years? or do they just wanna see him beat?
